As everyone should know by now, from next Wednesday, the 1st of October one will no longer have to display a tax disc, indeed they will no longer be issued.

What do you plan to do with your tax disc holder?

Take it out, stick it in the garage somewhere until I find a suitable alternative use for it. Part of an old one is currently part of my steering wheel centre badge as the MG badge was ruined.

This is a question that has been taxing my mind for a while, and I still don't have a definite answer.

Not sure myself.

The one in the ZS is held in place with a fag box, the ZR's is sitting on the shelf next to the holder and runs out next week, the one for the F is on the living room window sill, the one in the car expired in March and the one in the maestro expired in 2007, but is also held in place by a fag box.

Leave the MG branded holder in place and slip in an old disc from 2002 when the car was built. Retro-Yo.

MG branded holder

Are ye talking about some kind of factory tax disc holder ?? I've never seen one.

If I'd the choice, I'd have a nice clean windscreen with no tatty bits of paper stuck to it! Over here, there are 3 discs that we're obliged to display on the windscreen :yucky:

My one is just plain black with the MG octagon in white, I got it off ebay.

If you want an original OEM holder then this may be of interest: http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthread.php?t=640153

So am I right in thinking you can take your tax disc out from the 1st of october even if it doesn't run out until January next year . Or do I have to display it until it runs out then when I apply for my new one then I don't need to display it .

talkingcars

I don't think one has to display it after 1/10/14.

As I understand it you can remove it from Oct 1st, even though it may not be expired.

Yep after the 1st you can do as you please with it. The authorities will be working of data held on computers etc using anpr etc so no analogue stuff need anymore

my disc will be coming out. When i brought the car the prevoisu owner had the disc in the top righthand courner of the screen. I dont like it there but i have moved it as that would mean buying a new holder, so have been waiting since June when i got the car to ditch the disc

I don't think I've seen any cars without the tax disc in the window yet. So I will probably leave mine in.

Just out of interest what did you lads use to get rid of any residue left fron the holder? Dad's BMW E46 came in from the uk a few years ago and still has residue from the old tax disc holder in the bottom corner of the windscreen and can't seem to get rid of it.

Brake cleaner works well, along with a window paint scraper if it is tough.
