Removing the battery

I'm going on holidays next Monday for a week and the last time I left the car unused for a week the battery died. If I take the battery out for the week can I lock it manually? And will it effect the security system?

Yes, you can remove the battery, just make sure before you remove it to unlock the car using the fob, than manually lock the doors.
