There is a plenum with VIS motors on this car I’m visiting Saturday. The guy was savvy enough to know I didn’t need it as part of the LPG kit I’m removing. I took it off fine and gave it a shake and it didn’t rattle. I’m sure he said he wanted £75, so I told him I just wanted the LPG kit and put it in the boot.

I don't think it's something I'd want to attempt, but it has been done. I'm sure there's a guide somewhere.

Seen one f/s on the75 forum a few weeks back that someone had opened and gutted then revealed.

What's the advantages/disadvantages of doing this (apart from stopping the rattle obviously lol)

One day someone will do a back to back power run with a working one and a gutted one (and maybe a rattling one) so we can actually see which gives what power graph.

Until then I remain doubtful.

I know a few people have done it and said they've not noticed any difference but surely without the butterflys the car is running as a v6 all the time which will deffo hurt your mpg's at low revs.

there are enough people who have gone for a remap, strapped down on the rollers to be told the vis are not working, a guy on here just the other day.
Assuming they go back after fixing them, you have a back to back (ish) test on the rollers, but you shouldn't need that to convince you!!!

The fact that none working vis are so obvious on the dyno is enough to tell you.

The loss of low/mid range torque, about 15-18lb/ft foot of them also tells you what will happen if you gut one.

So, if you gut one, you will loose a load of torque below c4400rpm, above that it will be the same as a working one.

Some may argue that there are benefits of no restriction of flaps above 4k, if the manifold was of a particular design, I would agree, but its a shocking design and I can't see the removal of flaps making any more than a nats whisker of difference top end, assuming you never let your revs fall below 4,000rpm.

The last RR I did in my Red 180 showed if I remember correctly about 146bhp. I reckon both vis motors were guffed. At the same RR session, a few cars did really well. One 180 reached about 190 I think - the chap that had one prepped for the track and another nice Mk2 with a nice looking front splitter. Pete's diesel also showed about 160 so they were measuring power fine apparently.

At the same session, the guy that owned the garage had a bit of a dog Mk1 with a gutted manifold and his figures were about 180 I think. No idea about torque, fuel used etc, but the peak power figure was good.

Shame that was moved out of the ZS area, I for one don't have enough time to scan all the sub forums on .org, if I had I would have taken Kitch up on the offer with working valves.

It seems he has dropped out as he hasn't been on .org for nearly 2 years.

He was on here. He's the guy I was on about and we went to his based on an offer he made here.....
