Well thought I would start a thread here rather than carry on in my thread in new members area.

Its a 1.8 with one or two engine problems but when I post up some pics you will see the body is in good condition and also the interior but the engine has been neglected!

I've had a compression test done and the results are 150, 130, 120, 135.

So it looks like its starting to go, possibly why no major tell tale signs like smoke or mayo yet. Rather Tha spend a grand of money I don't have on another car and risk problems with that, and as body is in great condition in going to have the head gasket done, new belts and water pump done. I'm currently thinking that as head comes off to get it skimmed and possibly have the valve seats checked. Luckily my mechanic neighbour will let me pay him over 2 or 3 instalments.

Once that done I'm after an exhaust and induction kit then get drivers seat bolster repaired.

Will keep you updated! 😊

Car looks clean but, like you say, needs some TLC.

Part of the fun of owning a car I think. If I had a car that didn't need a bit of tinkering on my days off I wouldn't know what to do!

I know this thread is bit old but what do you mean by a blanked vvc head?

I'm guessing he means a vvc head with solid cams rather than the vvc mech and cams. You can buy blanking kits from the likes of Piper that cover off the holes left by the vvc mechs and HCU.

Only really worth removing the vvc if you're going to be running much hotter solid cams and a different intake system such as ITB's.

Plenty of work, will be interesting to see the results.

Sorry to say, ShireRoller, had an accident, and is no longer with us.

Sorry to hear that.

Doubt I will change the head, my mechanical knowledge is limited! Not much experience im afraid!
