On a facebook page, I said I'd add a additive to a VVC KV4 that sounds more like my Derv.

Someone posted this ---------------- I had a ZS180 and the Owners Manual says you should NEVER add additives ! Maybe try Castrol magnatec, a couple of garages that have serviced my car have sworn by it !-------------------- Is this right about adding or rather not adding any additives to the KV6.

I've only used quality synthetic oils and never used additives.

I don't see that an additive would do any harm, I have used a diesel spec oil in the past for a few hundred miles to flush the engine, it worked like a charm.

I have just flushed my 1.8 using Slick 50. Aurora is next!

MASSIVE difference!

read your owners manual ........never put additives in your engine oil ........all manufacturers specify that not just MG Rover

Not sure about KV6 but all VVC engines should only have semi Synthetic oil in and no additives.
Fully synthetic oil does not lub the VVC mech properly due to its consistency!
That's what we were told at Rover, however oils may have moved on since then but fully synth does feel "runny" to me

I ran Mobil 1 and some zx1 metal treatment for 10k in the charged kv6 with no issues.

and what does the oil additive contain???

if you don't know, get a data sheet.

Running the equivalent spec diesel oil can help remove crud and clean tappets etc out - diesel oil contains a lot more additives to remove carbon build up etc.

Worked well for me on a rather tappy 1.8 K Series. :)

Contains mainly molybendum I believe.
