Right as the car is being rebuilt it deserves a thread in this section.

Car was delivered earlier so as of 30/07/15 the project begins.

Right first update!

Fitted new ecu and 5as. Seller told me he changed the ecu but the car wouldn't start. Well turns out he did the ecu but not the 5as! There was nothing plugged in! LOL.

Anyway sorted that and got the car to start, well thats when the issues started, revving to 5k!! Went through a few things with the lord of the zs Pete changed the iacv, tps and nothing, still going nuts. Turns out the seller had fitted a new inlet manifold but the throttle bit had got snagged on a pipe holding it open. Off with the manifold, tidy the cables up, manifold back on and hey presto, she runs (and runs well!)

Thats me done for tonight, all that leaning over the engine bay gives me a bad back!

I like it when one resolves issues like that.

One thing missing from your list is de-tangoing the headlights while the bumper is off, I have what you need here, virtually new R45 headlights.

Well nothing happened today on the car but have been busy buying bits and bobs.
The typhoon parts have been paid for and collection has been arranged, now its just a waiting game.

I've done something as well, there is a seller on ebay supplying monogram paints in an aerosol, i've only got to spray one door handle for now so hopefully it won't be too off!

Few bits done this morning, busy weekend so had to get as much done as possible.

Firstly I had to get my temp replacement bonnet from the garage, easy borrow my bosses xc90, well he rang me last night to say he'd put petrol in it instead of diesel! Doh!

So with that out the window I awoke this morning thinking how the hell can I get the bonnet back. Then a thought crossed my mind, take the bonnet off the firefrost and drive to the garage, pop the trophy bonnet on it and drive back. Checked online and nope very illegal to drive without a bonnet, so a second plan emerged.

Firstly off with the FF bonnet, put it on the other car incase the scrap man thought it was for him.
http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n209/inda_loft/IMAG0342_zpshnb3rspx.jpg (http://s113.photobucket.com/user/inda_loft/media/IMAG0342_zpshnb3rspx.jpg.html)

Then the scrap bonnet on the FF

Off to the garage, scrap one off and the TY temp one on.
http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n209/inda_loft/IMAG0344_zpsbubk7m93.jpg (http://s113.photobucket.com/user/inda_loft/media/IMAG0344_zpsbubk7m93.jpg.html)
Weirdly I think the TY kinda goes with the Firefrost :o

Ahh thats better!

Thats better, doesn't look so much of a wreck now!!

Onto the wheels, was going sell them, lucky I didn't!
http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n209/inda_loft/IMAG0348_zpsigusbnzo.jpg (http://s113.photobucket.com/user/inda_loft/media/IMAG0348_zpsigusbnzo.jpg.html)

Still tons and tons to do, mainly inside and a little bit of touching up on the outside but that will wait until the rest of the Typhoon parts turn up.

Thats me done for today, will see some of you at duxford tomorrow. :)

So easy, had to travel a couple of miles . The bonnet is easy to remove on your own . It weighs less than you think :)

I think if you're looking to restore this and take to shows etc - you should get it as close to standard as possible. Swap the 11 spokes for refurbed Mk1 straights and even keep the yellow indicators - sorry James .....

Really don't think Mk2 alloys look good on Mk1 cars - :sorry:

It was more of I couldn't leave it on the wheels it was on and the 11's were going spare.

Just need to get the car on the road at the moment regardless of what alloys it's on or of its a patchwork of colours.

Well the typhoon is insured, £350 for the year. Little more than I was hoping but that's including an open claim. Peter Best were £270 but that's with the claim settled as non fault which could take an unspecified amount of time. Other than that quotes were 4k or more with my open claim.

This is through my broker sky who are fully aware of the open claim.

Just curios, but do you have the straights for it, if you are going to put it back as standard? If not let me know as I may be interested in a deal if you wanted to swap straights for 11's?

My MK2 is currently running on the straights whilst I (try) and refurb the 11's I have, then get tyres, but not a lot of time to get it all done at present so a spare set of 11's would sort me out if it also helps you? Just let me know as I am down south next week and may be able to bring them with?

Anyway, back on topic, looks like a fun project, wish I had time and money to sort one myself, would love a Typhoon! Good luck!

Right, tonights escapades.

Fixed the drivers window, it now goes all the way up and down after a test two nights ago and not noticing two bolts missing, the whole mechanism decided to fall apart. Still a little sticky but good enough for the time being.

Other than that, rebuilt both doors, I am short of a passenger side speaker. Both open inside and outside - a must for the mot!!

Handbrake console and centre console back in along with steering wheel cowling and the cover under that.

Starting to look a bit more like a car now instead of a pile of junk!!

Removed all the odds and sods from inside and chucked it all in the boot. The interior is filthy so once the mot is complete (fingers crossed!) then it'll all be coming back out including the seats so I can give them and the carpet a DEEP clean.

My pre project drive door cards will be going in but have to wait for the rear doors to turn up first and they will be getting the leccy windows treatment.

Couple of pic (light was rapidly fading!)

Bit more done today.

Front end taken apart and rebuilt, standard air box fitted, headlights all bulbed up and plugged in. Bumper reattached properly. Pretty much ready for the mot.

Only one pic today, like an idiot, the other day putting the centre console back in I have forgotton to plug the ciggy lighter in. So had to pull the other car up close!

Had a few spare minutes after work so decided to get the seats out to see the state of the carpet. All the seat bolt holes are intact thankfully so no welding needed there. Carpet is covered in crap but otherwise in really good condition. Will have to get in there with the dust pan and brush before I can attack it with the dyson.

Also a nice little find, when the car turned up I found 50p under the seat, but today I struck gold lol, £3.70! Making a grand total of £4.20 :)

As you don't have the rear floor vents I'd be tempted to get the carpet out and wash it with a hose, you'd be suprised what comes out, more than hoovering.

Does the car have the wiring for rear windows?
If not now is the time to fit it if you are planning to fit them.

Right, got busy with the vacuum after work. The carpet will be coming out and properly cleaned at some point as per Mick and James but will do for now. As the main aim is to get the car on the road for starters I don't want to go mad only to find it fails the MOT needing tons and tons of work.

Anyway, half done

Hopefully should be all good, I have moved the car and the brakes work as they are but really with a proper restore it needs a fresh set. The handbrake does also work to an extent, n/s wheel is solid when applied but the o/s has movement.

Right MAJOR update today, been on the car a fair few hours and got loads done.

Fitted:
Brakes on other side
Front bumper
Bonnet
Grill
Skirt
Rear Doors
Rear door electrics

Still a few bits I need, scrivets for the skirt, 6 of the 8 plastic nuts for the grill, work out where the 5AS attaches to and also the little red box behind that.

Refit the centre console and handbrake console. Work out why the ciggy lighter isn't working. Fit the metal kick plates.

Still waiting to turn up is the rear inner roof handles.

I've also got some black alcantara ZT headrests as the ones that came with the seats are full leather and I don't think they match. Got rears too but am going to have to work some magic on those.

But, on the grand scheme of things I think we are ready for the mot, although one of my cv gaitors is loose I am just hoping its the clip that has come off although a new set are on order.

Anyway the moment you have all been waiting for............

Still got the black spoiler, not much I can do about that at the moment but thats something that can wait.

Also popped to the garage earlier and met another garage owner backing this out to take it for a run!

Looking superb Matt! That yellow creation looks like a Mini Marcos.

Had a little go at the n/s wing, its not perfect by a long shot but is a fair bit better and less noticeable!

Just used a pair of pliers and a small hammer, then rough sanded the area then smooth sanded the whole wing, full respray and a coat of laquer, 1200, 1500, 2500, 3000 and a machine polish to finish.

Isn't that correct? ;)

Guess you mean seized? I bought a pair of cables off ebay, cheap enough and fitted fine.....eventually! Mine were seized in its outer sheath.
