I was in Halfords earlier today looking for an oil filter. None on the shelves but I asked a guy on the counter and he came back with an alternative for the KV6 priced at.... 25¢ each.

He suggested that they were possibly discontinued stock and had no problem ordering 10 of them in for me for €2.50!! They're coming over from the UK, so possibly could be the same in yer stores over there?

Will see what arrives next week!

Hope it's a quality one, I would be a tad bit suspicious at that price as heard of poor ones leading to failing engines.

It does sound interesting, do you know which brand they are?

Halfords do some strange things with pricing when they want to clear things, I've seen £20 light sets going for 1p and one of my colleagues worked there for his first job from school and has some interesting stories on the subject.

I had a look in the Halfords flip book for a filter for my car a few weeks ago, nothing listed for the 2.5 ZS 75 or ZT but was for the 2.0 75 and 45, and it was the same one for the K4.

I thought for 2.50€ it's worth a gamble to see what arrives.

The filter returned on his system was specced for the 2.5 and the picture did look like the longer shaped one used on the ZS.

Most retail companies when items are discontinued reduce it to a low price to sale.

When items get to 1p they're that price some companies can waste of the stock and dispose of it without the store taking a massive hit to its budgets.

Seen a LG 50" Plasma tv reduce to £60 once... and that was back in 2008!

I remember when Tesco had Belkin phone cases on clearance for 1p... this is probably a similar thing. :)

From memory the 'old' KV6 filter had a different part number, but was physically compatible with the newer version.

This is what arrived. Crosland. Anyone any experience with them?

Yes, a ECP favourite! I might be in the firing line for this, but I think these could be to blame for my two engine failures.

Went straight back to OEM - LPW100161.

That doesn't sound good!! No one with more positive/neutral experience with them?

Cause it's not worth the risk in that case.

Don't have any experience with the KV6 at all really but I have used Crosland filters on a friend's VW Bora TDI with no issues and we use Crosland Automatic gearbox oil filters on the older Scania buses in work.

I'd be surprised if Crossland were substandard, they are common place.

Crosland are usually fine, just another aftermarket brand really. No issues I've noted to date.
