I'll be taking the ZS off the road soon for abit of a restoration and I'll be swapping out the little 1.4 k-series for a T-16. Apart from the engine, gearbox, Rover 420 engine mounts and drive shafts what will I need? Also has anyone who has done a T-16 swap with a Mk2 ZS or ZR had much bother with it in terms of the MEMS 3 ECU and the Pektron BCU/SCU set up or with the wiring loom, any help is appreciated. Cheers guys

Pete Scott / PeteT16 will be your best bet :)

Dan re-wired his car with a 420 loom.

Don't forget the brakes.

Yeah I'll be upgrading to 180 discs all around. I hardly trust the brakes on mine with the 105 engine lol

i'd also get the 180 suspension and ARB's, T-16 is a hefty lump compared to 1.4.

Yes, you'll definitely need the V6/Diesel suspension (both are the same).

While out, I'd change a few bits and pieces.
Driveshaft oil seals: TRX100060 (https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/collections/seals-washers-and-o-rings/products/pg1-gearbox-differential-oil-seal-lh-trx100060), UNG100060 (https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/collections/seals-washers-and-o-rings/products/pg1-gearbox-differential-oil-seal-rh-ung100060)
I'd check wear on the clutch, and replace if needed: T Series Turbo Clutch - B&B (https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/collections/clutch-transmission-parts/products/borg-beck-rover-t-series-turbo-228mm-clutch-kit-urf000131-fits-rover-220-turbo-420-turbo-620ti-820-turbo-vitesse)

The Borg clutches can take a fair bit of power in the T Series application, too. We have a couple of customers running forged engines and aftermarket management with no slipping issues. :)

There's not much difference in weight between a KV6, and a T series

I'll be changing the clutch and flywheel anyway and any other seals, gaskets and O-rings that are easier to do while the engine is out of the car, would just make more sense in the long run.

So far I know I'll need:
Engine & gearbox (what ancillaries from the K-series can be kept?)
ECU and wiring loom
180 discs and callipers
180 suspension set up (will probably put a set of coilovers or lowering springs on it)
R420 drive shafts and engine mounts.
Anything I'm missing? Would I be able to use any PG1 gearbox with ZS mountings or does it have to be one from a T-series? And will the drive shafts from say a 180 do?
Any suggestions/advice is appreciated
Thanks lads

Didn't someone do a complete how to guide?

You can use a PG1 from any T series, L series. or KV6, the PG1 from k4 engine cars won't fit because of a different bolt pattern on the bell housing.
180 Drive shafts are a non starter, they're the wrong length, and the drivers side is a 2 piece shaft, either 420 petrol or diesel shafts will fit but you may need to swap the outer cv joints as the later abs system uses rings with 43 teeth, the early ones were 27 teeth

Pretty sure the t series is about 20kgs heavier, someone I knew once weighed both before a conversation was done on a zr

Quick one on this lads. Does anybody know if the drive shafts and engine mounts from an R8 420 GSI turbo would fit in a ZS? Cheers!
