When i first got my car i was told by one insurance company that i needed a tracker. Juts go to another insurance company. they dont all ask for a tracker to be fitted. it might still work out cheaper in the end...

thats not to bad atall really. direct line can be a real pain in the bum, delt with them before. i think the AA do trackers? trackstar or summin?

I would change insurance companies, a tracker is alot of upkeep for what is an old Rover ;)

I pay circa £310 fully comp and no need for a tracker and that includes declared mods. I'm with Admiral, and I get a discount for multi-car policy. Prior to them I was with Norwich Union and Churchills, the latter wanted a tracker btw.

I would check your policy as if you didn't pay for it in one go and are paying monthly they may do it like a loan as you have to pay loads of interest.

Tracker isn't that great in my experience and there are gadgets out there that jam the signal or they tear your car apart to remove it (may be not so likely on a ZS). Trackstar if it is the one i'm thinking of is great as it tells you exactly where the car is and even how fast it's going.

Am I reading this right?

You have had the policy for 2 months and yet they still offered to cover you even though you have not had a tracker fitted? Or is it a case of void if it gets stolen?

Look into it before you do anything incase they penalise you. I find it strange if they did not make this clear about no tracker and limited cover, am I right to assume they have written this in as a disclaimer incase of theft? If not then they could be in breach of contract themselves.

basically my insurance covers everything apart from theft until i get a tracker fitted.

switch insurance dude, my Mk2 180 is only £860 all mods declared for a year with Elephant - no tracker requred.

I'm 21 with 3 years NCB, so your quote should be less since you're over 25, and less again if the ZS is standard (mine has some fairly hefty mods on it)

On a personal note about trackers, my mate had one in his Impreza as required by insurance. The car was stolen in the middle of the night and was never seen again. The tracker records show that it went to the local docks then vanished. Local cops tried using the close range signal but nothing.

Apparently if the car makes it inside a container it's gone as the signal can't get through the thick metal of the box.

Total waste of time IMO, a decent alarm system would be a better use of £400

cheers for the advice guys, just got a quote with elephant @ £650 fully comp, which is £200 or so less than with direct line. Just need to read the small print now on direct line to see if i can change my policy over to elephant
