Hello all...

right now I am thinking of making my own Carputer project thingy :)

I've got a friend who really knows his stuff, has done his own and has been running it for a while now.

I've got an old P3 rig to use. I need a ideally 2 7" monitors. 1 a touch screen, the other just a normal. GPS receiver and a powersupply to connect to the car itself.

Anyone ever done this in the Zed? My biggest issue is going to be figuring out where to put the monitors (or just the 1!)

Where do people think? :)

there are a number of ways you can build one....you can use an old pc motherboard, prebuilt systems or build one from scratch...i opted to build my own to my own specification

if you are using a PC motherboard, it will be more power hungry (cpu) then a mini ITX motherboard, unless you get a decent power supply :D

best place to look in www.digital-car.co.uk , excellent forum, lots of help available and if i can help you with anything give me a shout

good place for supplies is www.linitx.com and for cabling www.kenable.co.uk

You should also include a wireless card, so if u park-up somewhere u can nick their unsecured network, which is always fun :)

Thanks dude, yep I was linked to linitx and me and a friend specced up a screen, psu and gps receiver - £250ish all in all it was which is nothing to complain about!! I've got a machine already so I need to build a custom thin case so it doesn't take up much room and I need to see about moulding the screen into the dashboard! :D

Thanks buddy! I'll let ya know! - It'll be a fun project, and hopefully inspire you to do yours as well ;)

Not a bad idea...I wonder if I could hook it up to the cars shell so the car acts as the antenna - lol that'd be fun!

Indeed, unfortunately I have friends that occasionally want to get in the car with me so it needs to be there :p

ha ha! yer it doesn't look anywhere near as cool as moulded in, looks really out of place folded out. love the install in the pic tho, really cool.

no worries dude I'm always here to lend a helping hand :-) ya need to think about speaker outputs, amps and associated equipment remember bud, an uprated sound card is a must! all well and good looking smart, but it has to sound the puppys peanuts to impress me ;) as I said I'm pretty fluent with ICE so any questions u know where I am :-)
