Driving to work the other morning at silly o'clock 04:30, everything was running fine. Temp gauge ok, nil warning lights. The header tank light suddenly illuminated, after a few mins went out.
This on / off happened 3 times, but engine temp stayed a constant. Thought it could be a dirty sensor.
Checked on arrival at work...............to my horror the header tank cap was missing!!!!!!!!!, fortunately it had lodged itself inside the engine bay.

I had checked the consumable levels the day before, but in my haste had not double checked any replacement of caps etc...............very lucky & got away with it...........

If it makes you feel better I left off the 710 cap from the Citroen once, funny really as I stopped on the way out one weekend a couple hours after doing it. Something pricked my conscience and made me check! It too was lodged neatly in the engine bay

I remember years ago when I had my Ford Escort Mexico Mk.1 (one of the best cars I have ever owned), saw a wheel bouncing past me (was in slow traffic), then the Mexico started to lean at a strange angle!!!!!!!

Forgot to tighten up the wheel nuts after changing pads!!!!

Have had a wheel come off the car trailer with about 3/4 ton on... Load of timber slip off the same trailer... and the latest was the car roll out of the garage - someone left it out of gear and no handbrake on.

That's a good enough sign i think that it's not all down to age.
