Now I'm probably going to sound really thick and daft here but I've just seen a few piccies of ZS TURBO's ZS Turbo (if you see what I mean) this is a conversion isn't it? if so how much and where from please as i might be tempted with the same. Cheers

Yeah... Think it's a T-series turbo lump that they drop in.

As to "where?" and "how much?" i'm not sure.

You'll need a non KV6 ZS and a Rover Coupe to use as a donor car

After that it'll be about £2 - 3k for a decent conversion - at least that's what I was quoted for a ZR to 2ltr turbo conversion

You could drop the ZT K series Turbo in instead.I believe a member on here has done just that

Go find a smashed up ZT 1.8 Turbo... and put the engine (or just bits you need) into your 120... :D:D

Any idea about wiring harnesses, rads, weight of engine, ecu connections etc?

Its the same engine just with a turbo ;) - You may need to tweek the ECU... but other than that should be fairly straight forward...

yeah as far as I know you just fit the ZT exhaust and intake manifolds.

I beleve the ECU is different, but that can be downloaded into your ECU by anyone with a T4 manchine

That ad says it's a 1.8 VVC turbo, no correct me if i'm wrong but isn't the 1.8 VVC 160 bhp and the 1.8T 160 bhp? Or is this a case of him putting VVC in the title to get more hits?
How easy/expensive is it to stick a ZT turbo, exhaust and manifold on to a ZS and tweak the ECU?

or buy the rover/zs thats on pistonheads for £2.5k as the conversion is already done....and use your zs to make the back standard et voila!

There was talk of someone turbo charging the vvc engine and getting 260bhp... but in this case I think it is a case of him putting VVC in the title to get more hits....

If its just the manifolds and turbo... then it should be fairly straight forward and you could then resell the engine as a 1.8 (non turbo - 120bhp) lump for similar money?? ;)

When I told a pal of mine that I was looking into buying my 180 Zed he found this pic somewhere on the net of a ZS with an Audi 1.8 turbo conversion. Him being a big Audi nut ( we're on our way to turning his into a monster!) recons the block is out of a Seat or A3 1.8t. Says they are about 160-170 horse but behing a turbo have many mods to get them silly BHP...

Thats a ZR...

But yes, Martin @ Rayland undertakes this conversion :) - Should anyone want one ;)

And anyway how would a groundskeeper know what is good and what is not :p http://wiw.org/~jess/wp-content/uploads/2007/07/willie.gif

your nearly right willie !.
My zs is currently at reyland undergoing this engine conversion , it uses the audi tt 225 bhp engine but tuned to 270 bhp and similar torque .

Dave

p.s you can pick one of these audi 225 engines up on ebay for 1200 quid.!

Im going to ask a noob question here but why cant the 2.5i zed produce much more horses where as the 1.8i zed can take a whole lot more. This is just what i have read on sites im just curious thats all.

The KV6 can produces tons of power.... if you throw enough money at it!

QED for example produced over 300 BHP from a KV6...

http://www.qedmotorsport.co.uk/

Not sure if they still tune them though...

oh right i was always under the impression that you could not get that much unless you went the supercharger but they dont seem to be the choice to go. Thanks for the link will have a look at that now.

ZS

Not sure there is any information on the link any more... IIRC cost was prohibitive for this engine, however I believe MG-Rover.org or XPF has the relevant threads still :)

I have the KV6 catalogue from QED, I'll scan the pages in sometime as I have permission to do so. They are still offering tuning parts and alot of them!

Just got off the phone to my insurance company and with them it's a nono, bit reluctant to change at the moment, so I think I'll stick to the 135bhp conversion with the new head etc; God i must be getting old, a few years ago I'd have gone for this without blinking...amazing what male pattern baldness and a few wrinkles does for you...now where's me slippers and....bloodyhell....me pipes gone out...........bah! God that music's loud...oh it's mine...................

qed good stuff but very expensive for bhp gained .
Firstly you have to remove your engine and send it to them for them to work on it and then the prices are mad .
Ive got the catalogue too and iirc throttle bodies alone were 1650 quid !!
I was quoted 6k iirc for the kv6 trackday engine and its still only 230 bhp and 190 lb ft torque ,to make 300 bhp from one youd need a lottery win .
If you want high power in your zs then sorry but imo kv6 modding isnt the way to go ,only plausible options are a t series turbo engine swap or a vag engine swap.

Dave

edit ,a few prices
crossover throttle bodies £1550 +vat
dta engine management £850 plus vat
dta wiring loom £350
cams £600 plus vat
forged pistons £637 plus vat
crankshaft £1800 plus vat
con rods £920 plus vat
valve springs £135
flywheel £225 plus vat
standard dry sump £795 plus vat
low line dry sump £4750 plus vat
single cam belt conversion kit £555 plus vat
vernier cam pulleys £300 plus vat

I'm with you Dave, it'll need a lottery win to gain bhp from a KV6 and I would do as you are doing now with the VAG conversion.

Pity it's still fwd as I reckon a rwd ZS would be excellent, then again I have not come across many fwd drives that handle like the ZS can.

you wanna try it running 275 kilos lighter with an lsd , coilies ,track tyres and running track set up geometry .If i was to try and compare it to the standard zs ,i would say .......theres no comparison, lol.
Im quietly confident the car will handle it well ,the zr does well and reyland know their stuff.

Don't tempt me! I've thought about stripping mine out, but have decided against temptation and will be going back to the ovals! I'm like you and would get frustrated with the lack of power available for sensible money.

My next track car looks likely to be a pug 306 and will be converted to rwd, not sure on the running gear as yet, I'll see what is available through my local club. Most likely vtec or red top depending upon budget. Still, the V8 always sounds nice and the crowd love the noise :D But getting a bit long in the tooth these days.
