Hi All,

Right, now the Zed at night...the inside of it all very...orange

Fitted the new HU yesterday which glows blue, I think it looks a lot smarter and could give me something to do.

I'm told by a valid source that Wilko replaced his orange lights with blue ones?

Hard to do?

What bulbs are used? I'm fairly handy with a soldering iron so willing to give it a bash!

Cheers all!
Jake

I changed the dash colour but wasnt a simple bulb swap job and it aint finished yet as for the blue kits i bought one on ebay ( cant remember who from ) and all it contained was small leds and resisters to change the colour in the switches, not got round to this one yet. it might be cheaper to go maplins or similar.

Is the orange effect created by a filter on the clocks or the bulb colour?

both, rubber johny type cover on the bulbs and orange stuff on the dials, I'll try get a pic up tommorow to show you what i've managed so far. not perfect yet but only a trial run.

As you see the blue does work but the problem is that the blue bulbs i got are not strong enough to give a good spread of light. i'm asuming the orange coating on the back is a kind of filter to give an even spread of light. I'm thinking of trying the blue bulbs i had in the sidelights to see if theres a difference or i will add more bulbs across the dials to even it out. To start with i used bulb paint from halfords but even with a light coat the light coming through was very poor so i removed it and left the dials clear. Other problem which was my fault is the needles wont glow because i coated them as well and havent got round to removing it. Despit the pic the needles are visible at night so i aint driving without em.

The MG part of the dial wont glow but a wee led will sort that.

incidentally i did this t my 406 coupe, you need to take all the orange of the back of the dials to get the spread. Ace when done.

Yeah its a pain in the arse. i did try to get a group buy after i spoke to lockwood before i took this route but it got about as much attention as maggie thatchers undercrackers on ebay. Still its a work in progress so hopefully will get it sorted soon. I,ve still got another two sets of dials here i think.
