Look at pistonheads, there's a silver 180 mk2 saloon for 2800 to pick up...with the extreme spoiler and 55k miles on it

wat should i look for on that engine at 55000 miles? when do things tend to go wrong/if they go wrong?

Service history and ask what's been replaced. 55k is nothing on a 180 if looked after.

I would say service history is a must for the 180. And make sure there's no rattles from the plenum or vis motors.

VIS stands for Variable Intake System which is what the 180 has, when you pop the bonnet the big lump of plastic on top of the engine at the rear is your plenum, the two squarish bits attached at the side are your vis motors/valves. If there is a lot of rattling coming from the plenum it will need replaced So haggle off about £500 for a replacment - car still goes but without full power. Whengiving it beans you should notice a power surge at about 3,400 revs and again at about 4,700????? if there is no surege and the car generally feels sluggish one or both the motors could be kaput:)

A guy is selling a mint MK2 ZS saloon on XPF with full alcantara interior, decat, springs, backbox with less than 20k on the clock. I'm sure if you offered him £3750 cash in hand he would bite your hand off for it.

rite peeeps, iv got one but its a mk1 53 plate 41000 miles quite good bodywork mot and tax....1900 quid.
only prob at mo is there is a rattle (which sounds like a loose washer in the black part of the manifold) pretty sure its not the vis valves as im pretty sure i gt powersurge at jus over 3000 revs, im jus hopin its ok.apart from tht its mega :D
