can you put a plate on a car thats newer than the reg. ie mine now is ##53 ###, can i put a private plate on for instant MG56 AJB

No.

You can only attach an older plate than the year it was registered.

I was after a V6 plate for my then Calibra, wasn't allowed due to it being an 'L' plate to start with.
