Now then guys and girls, just out of interest, what is the fastest you have been in you zs's???? i dont want to know were or if it was on road or track LOL. but im just curios. the book says 139 mph top speed. ive done 141mph in my 2002 ZS 180 hatch and it was still going, but I backed off (dont want to damage the engine).

anyone done any better or had an interesting high speed experience??

Ps.
I know its not all about top speed cus they handle so well, but the V6 isnt there for show LOL.

Keep it clean folks! Any quoted speed above the NSL should be on a track, not on the public highway

Only 115mph Im afraid to say, but then the "circuits" around my way dont have many straights, and those arent very long.

Sorry bud. I was a stretch of new bypass before it opened. Got passenger to verify and the guard who let me on. I'm always within legal limits. All the time. Honest.:bike:

146mph gps indicated with a tail wind, although I dont believe my speedo or my gps so god knows how fast it really was.

The missus maxed out her octavia vrs 'siren and blue light clad company car' the other night in pursuit and only managed to record 123mph on the cars calibrated recording equipment when the speedo was reading somewhere between 130-135mph.

Always thought speedos seem to be a bit of a white elephant above a ton.

same speed also on gps (tom tom) that was on a standard engine. i dont think the mods will do anything to top speed i think they are just for acceleration

Ive noticed that the speedo is normal quite a way out quite often as much as 10% also depends on the wheels that are fitted. My road angel has got me doing 119 but speedo said over 125. On my private run way that is

With gps apparently its not a pin point possition you can be anywhere with in a 3meter radius

dunno , my tomtom is a fair bit off with the merc but was only out by 1 or 2 mph in the iveco. my own navman seems to be spot on in the zed tho.

Please watch what you post rules (http://www.themgzs.co.uk/vb/showthread.php?t=5167) are there for all to obey, 1.1.3 ;)

If you want to drive in such a manner make sure it is legal and ideally a track.

not a 180 but i think when it was standard it may be able to get to its theoretical book top speed....

However i have been in ride in a heavily modifed 400 'tractor' as a passenger and i saw over an indicated 140mph and it was still pulling!

usually the derv's run out of puff at 4200rpm but his mods and fueling adjustments kept it going right up to 5000 or so iirc

you boys make me chuckle :) why private roads? why not....Germany!! ha ha!! then legally....fc*uk all the police can say or do :) because obviously the flying helmet and googles come off when your in the UK and you stick to exactly 29mph/49mph and 69mph :) and become a completely different driver of course...YER RIGHT!!!

Those speeds feel...odd :D

I managed to get 140 odd out of the ZS one night on the GPS... even thought the speedo was about 5mph higher! It was still pulling so would probably have gone a fair bit quicker... but the back straight at Knockhill isn't that long lol

I noticed over the winter that the speedo GPS difference is even bigger with the standard 17's on. A few MPH high up to 70ish and then it goes waaay out the closer you get to the ton. Fitting 18" wheels actually made it more accurate!

I have a similar problem on the Landrover, with it having such big tires the speedo is constantly at least 10mph out, so I have a GPS speedo fitted perminantly

Not had a chance to test the new machine yet... but it gets to triple figures very very quickly!

Hoping to get over to the 'ring this summer... so that'll be a good test for it

I bottled it at 130mph when i picked my 180 up from Germany :D both my tomtom and speedo said the same speed they can't both be out can they? Managed just over the ton on the start finish straight at Oulton the other day before i had to slam on and change down at the 50 board lol

Strange, My ZS TDi 101 (Not owned it for over 3 years) was still pulling at 145mph (indicated) while following a ZR160, and that was standard...

The 180 has only seen 147 once and I backed off after than as it felt a bit light.... think I need some polyurethene bushes...

If it was going that quick you are doing very well as the book speed for the 115 is 118mph iirc! and the 101 is a touch lower i seem to think...

I am sure mine over-reads by about 10% when up in the naughty speed area

i pulled 128-130 every lap at befford autodrome on the full gt circuit, it has one of the longest straights in the country, that was in my zs with 206 bhp and 184 lb ft, stripped and track prepared. I think i will be able to up that 10-15 mph next time as ill have 50% more power and 60% more torque:yay:

I took this photo on the M25 on the way home (sort of) from the MGCC annual meet at Silverstone in 2003. This is the stretch of motorway between the A1 and the A1000 (Potters Bar). A major incident occurred at the Holmesdale Tunnel junction, so the police turned us all around (eventually) to take us up the down ramp at the A1. I was actually only doing around 50mph when I took the photograph.

I have to laugh at all of the GPS speedo things, all the GPS Nav stuff is not accurate at all, they can be out by about 10m and the time lag is huge, so the GPS speedo on a Tom Tom etc isnt going to be accurate this is due to the American Military that run a program that degrades the information that the civilian GPS receivers get, this is done on purpose.

stamford
28-02-09, 11:40 AM
I knew the GPS were way off as my previous Navman was spot on compared to the cars speedo, but the TomTom is way off the mark. So I don't trust either! It's only an indicated speed, not actual speed, so we can only go by what is shown with its +/- tolerance.

Andyf

I have always found the TomToms in the cars at work are pretty much spot on and match the calibrated speedos exactly.
