First 75 diesel that I've heard of needing a new engine. The BMW engines tend to be pretty reliable. Any idea what caused the problem?

How much would a new engine be?
What condition is it in?

That depends how much you could source one for from breakers and the likes.

Christ we had loads of 75/zt diesels that had engines at rover, usually bottem end too... they just replaced the engine rather than fix but no idea why they used to knock, at a guess of around 5-8 a year, not many but we were only local dealers.
