Am i right in thinking the following, or have i got crossed wires somewhere?

- 11-spoke MKII alloys are 7.5j
- Multi-spoke MKI are 7j

I have no idea about PCD / Offset / etc so don't tell me about that (unless you care to explain it to me). :)

Correct Alan, the mk2 alloys are wider to accomodate the arch extensions on the 180 kit. I also think the offset is slightly different on both as well, only a couple of mm though but not sure on the actual figure, possibly 42mm. PCD is 100mm, (pitch circle diameter) measured as the circular dimension and 4 stud fitment, commonly stated as 4x100.

So what is the 7j / 7.5j referring to?

...and the all important question - how would the difference of .5j affect handling?

Real world on the UK roads... it doesn't at all... if anything you MAY see a slight better handling when on track... not taken the 180's out on track to find out....

the "j" is for width

The J defines the bead type that is required to seal on the rim. Nearly all standard road tyres have J type beads.

imo the ZS 11 spokes should of come with 215/40/17's. They look to stretched on 205's leaving barely any rim protection.

But when they tested them in R&D they found that there was a fair bit of movement in the wall when 215's were fitted and this affected the handling....

...and 215s rub the arch lining. Had them on mine for a total of about 5 mins and 1 mile before they were taken back and removed.

Thats stange im running 215/35/18's on my ZS with no rubbing issues. Or would that be because the wheels are a different offset?

Must be a mk2 thing as I'm running 215's with no rubbing issues.

Could be a MKII thing...

Got 215/40/17's on the MK2 11 spokes... no rubbing at all (not even on full lock)

I'm considering changing back to 205/45 on the MK2's but thats purely down to trying to get my speedo back into sync with the actual speed I am going (70 on the speedo is 60 on the GPS with 215/40 tyres!!!)

the ones that the guy suggested to me were 215/45/17... Maybe that 5% tyre wall depth made the difference.

I was told 205/45/17 and 215/40/17 were the same rolling radius and this is why I went for 215/40... but as stated above the speedo is out quite a way...

Appears there is quite a difference... 2.03cm in the rolling radius.

Ive got 215/45 on the rear and 205/40 on the front!
It was my mistake but the garage wouldn't take them back!

Handling was very impressive on track, but it does tend to oversteer on some sharp corners!

No rubbing issues though.

An 8J wheel on mine in 18" with 215 35 R18 tyres with no problems. Car is lowered quite a lot as well.:)

this is a debate that could go on for ever. lol

i do agree that a 205 tyre looks stretched on the mk2 wheel

agreed.............the 205s are defo better for handling as when I was on track with the 215s I could feel a lot more movement mid corner when the tyres were loading up resulting in a bit of oversteer on exit to the apex.

The 205s do leave the alloys exposed a little but the only way out of that is to steer clear of the kerbs  .....................isn't that right Nikki 'stroppy knickers'

The extra .5" does make a difference in my opinion as it uses the 205 tyre to the best of its potential compared to being on the narrower 7J rim.

Other good thing...........is if you have a mk1 fitted with mk2 wheels..........the stance looks a lot more menancing and aggressive something which I like a lot
