got hammered leaving the lights by an audi today. Looked a right rusty old thing til we started moving. Don't help that I got the 120 either but I didn't notice the quattro badge until he waved as he put his foot down LOL. Tried to play it all innocent like I wasn't even trying but he wasn't buying it for a second. Will look more carefully what I am dragging with next time!

Just because it had a Quattro badge does not mean it is a fast as it could be a nasp version and still carrying alot of weight. However even if it was an old version they are still nippy as the smaller one was a 2.0 5 pot. They also did it as a 2.2 and a 2.3.

sadly my sister wont let me have a go in it and open it up. My sis drives like an old lady and when i asked her if shes opened her up she replied with "yeah I got up to 70". To me that is not opening it up! lol

I spent many hours building and testing Audi race engines and came to the conclusion that a freshly built engine using all new shells did not work. What I did was buy engines with at least 100k on them and strip and rebuild them using the original shells as long as they passed the Plastigauge test. No engines failed on track using this method, however brand new engines did fail as they ran too tight. I even built a test rig to run a new engine in overnight using a light grinding paste and oil mixture to age the shells. On a test day at Goodwood we managed to break an expensive ABT engine and that only lasted 4 miles! By the way, these 'tired' engines ran in the Budget Rent-a-Car saloon series and did very well as they did in oval and some track racing by myself.

So if your sister has only managed 70mph at a push, what is the cars previous history? It could still be running in!

If it has only reached 100k then it should be run in then! It's when they are at their best.

Out of interest I have owned a 100 2.2CD, 200 Turbo (x2), Coupe GT 2.2, Coupe GT 2.0, 80CD 2.0 and Coupe GT 2.4 race car, all 5 pot engines. Played with Quattro, fwd & rwd versions for development. Bloody good cars.

Good work ....

As for Audi's.....never had a big one ... All been A2's. Had a 1.4 and 1.6 petrol and the wife now has a 1.4TDi. Does a miliion to the gallon no matter how hard it gets driven and £35 tax. Off-sets mine !

Father-in-law has just bought an ex-demo 09 plate A4 Avant SE Executive 170TDi with 2K miles for just short of £19K. Fingers crossed it'll end up coming my way in a few years !

Fair point.

We've always had the sport versions, which have the 17 inch alloys, sit slightly lower and sport interior, so not too bad. The first one I had, was black, and had a factory Audi bodykit. It looked pretty good to be honest.
