fingers crossed. dropped my car off at the local MGR specialists.. my engine makes a metallic tapping noise at low revs with gentle throttle. it's coming from the belt side of the engine. lets hope its not serious, but i'm really nervous

Lets hope its nothing serious, I always put an oil additive in when I do an oil change, STP or something, suppose to coat the wearing surfaces. Helps reduce friction on start up.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

well unless the warrenty company pays out (which I will have to MAKE them), it's going to be costly- £500 to repair, or a new engine. My car has been diagnosed with piston slap :(

Thats pretty common for a K Series from what i hear.

it is- but only at cold. This happens even when the engine is warm, and has been running for 30 minutes or more; that is not normal.

Well I hope they don't try and wriggle out of it, I don't have much faith in these warrantys.

seriously, if they get out of this, i'm going to have to sell my car. I cannot afford £500! I am really nervous right now. And pissed. I find out tommorow if they will cover it or not.

Check the warranty thoroughly before contacting them, at least that way you can get everything up to date before calling them with a funny noise ;)

i had a warranty company try to get out of putting a new engine in my old ZT. they tryed everything not to repair or replace it..... A quick threat of "ill see you in court" soon sorted that out. 2 day's after it was in the garage having its new engine.

when a warranty is taking out, its a legal thing. they dont have a leg to stand on in most cases. As long as the car hasnt been modified from when they sold it to you and hasnt been raced they will have to pay out. its a legal thing. this is speaking on experience..... been through it twice before, one going to court and needless to say I WON!

i hope it doesn't come to that :( paul brothers in bognor were great about it and said they will sort it out for me as they quite often deal with warrenty claims. i hope that was the right thing to do.

hopefully you wont have to go through it. i had to wait 4 months before i could get them in court. i had 5 loan cars in that time!!! all piles of dog poo as well!

its so depressing being faced with the thought of loan cars! my nan has a 1.4 polo loan car as someone crashed into her fabia. I know the fabia's nothing special but jesus, the polo is a dull piece of crap with no character. there's no car like a ZS.

When my maestro went in for an engine conversion they gave me some Rover 800, they commented about a small leak from the power steering system and his friend made some comment about MOTs. He also said the car would be ready in 3 weeks which I accepted with Easter being the following weekend.

I drove the Rover 800 home and found the following faults.

ABS warning light on.*

Power Steering Leak.*

Blowing Exhaust.*

(The above are faults that will cause MOT failure so therefore makes the car unroadworthy).

Missing wing mirror.

Boot won’t open.

Slow Puncture.

Radio not working.

Air conditioning not working.

I appreciate that a small business can not afford to provide brand new courtesy cars but to provide an unroadworthy car is illegal. As I was unhappy to drive the car with the brake warning light on and power steering leak I used my other car for the duration of the time they had my Maestro, about 3 months.

update: garage called AA warrenty, who said piston slap is not covered under warrenty, despite them covering the pistons and liners. sorry, but not good enough, there is a fault with the pistons and liners, and i will have to call them myself tomomrow morning and sort things out. garage confirmed my service history is all good so no need to worry there.

i can see this getting long, boring and tiring...

At least who ever diagnosed it got it right, i went to 2 so called mg-rover specialists first (one being an x-part garage)one who didnt have a clue what the rattling was,and the other one said it was normal and he didnt know of any inherrant problems with the k-series lol... i then took it to my trusted local garage and he told me straight off, exactly what was said earlier on in this thread..piston slap (pistons & liners)

So when will they cover it? When the piston skirt has snapped off and buggered the engine I suppose! What a bunch of imbeciles! Piston slap is due to the piston and liners being out of normal build tolerances and the bottom of the piston is slapping against the liner or bore.

just spoke to them myself, they are giving me mixed facts.

They apparently told my garage that they can cover it, but will need the engine to be stripped down for diagnosis, even though the garage are 100% sure that this is the problem and have offered for an engineer to come out to confirm this.

I called them and after arguing with one person, I called up again, he said htat piston slap wasn't covered even though the previous person did. I asked to speak to a manager, who I was put through to, but the line was busy, and he said he will call me back in 24 hours. I said not good enough, if he's on a call he can call me when he's done. Called up a 3rd time and the person said he will get the boss to call me. I will wait until 5:15 (they close at 5:30) and call again and get put through to the boss.

I'm also mentioning to him that this "ordeal" is being broadcast over multiple forums, and is probably spanning a good 1000 people. So if you are Mr Craig Cartlidge, hello, and please get this resolved before it has to go any further :)

or Mr Craig Cartlidge, steve will see you in court very soon...... and going on experience the chances of you winning, and getting out of what you legally agreed to are around slim to none.
