I have just done a bit of a road trip and I am amazed at the economy my car returned. Did the usual:
Filled tank to brim (at shell)
Reset trip computer
Drove until warning light came on (509.4 miles)
Refilled tank to brim (at another shell station to make it a fairer test)
Noted how many litres she took (51.95)
Converted to gallons (11.429)
Then divided miles covered by gallons used (509.4/11.429) which is 44.57 MPG

Now this included being sat on the motorway for quite a while at 60 mph but the rest was town driving in heavy traffic around London or constant stopping and starting on busy A roads. Also there were lots of jams on the motorway. So when the official combined mpg is 40, I think I did very well!

I have also had around 500 miles from a tank, if driven carefully the 120 is quite economical, even if it is driven enthusiasm its very good!!

It wasnt really grandad driving, I was still accelerating as I usually do. I think that it was sticking to 60 on the motorway which made the difference because my previous record was 420 miles to a tank but that was at 70 on the motorway. I have got into the habit of trying to predict the traffic and use the brakes as little as possible which also helps.

That sounds more like what I got when I first got the car, after an oil and filter change though it seemed to improve.

I get around 620 on a tank in the derv! :mml:

Isn't the book figure for the 120 45mpg anyway?

620 :tease:. The book figure for the 120 combined is 38.9 and 48.3 extra urban so when you consider the amount of urban driving I was doing and the fact I got almost 45 mpg, I think it was quite good.
