I have just done a bit of a road trip and I am amazed at the economy my car returned. Did the usual:
Filled tank to brim (at shell)
Reset trip computer
Drove until warning light came on (509.4 miles)
Refilled tank to brim (at another shell station to make it a fairer test)
Noted how many litres she took (51.95)
Converted to gallons (11.429)
Then divided miles covered by gallons used (509.4/11.429) which is 44.57 MPG
Now this included being sat on the motorway for quite a while at 60 mph but the rest was town driving in heavy traffic around London or constant stopping and starting on busy A roads. Also there were lots of jams on the motorway. So when the official combined mpg is 40, I think I did very well!
