I currently drive a 1.4 ZR and have started to look at the ZS just need to know a few things.

Does this car have many known problems? HGF, Grinding locks, heaters etc?

Was the 180 body kit an extra on the 1.6

This is the car im looking at, click here (http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/MG+ZS/Ne-2-4-5-6-7-8-27-44-49-53-61-64-67-103-133-146-236,N-19-110-191-240-4294965283-4294966777/advert.action?R=200928337865377&distance=170&postcode=ll142se&channel=CARS&make=MG&model=ZS&min_pr=&max_pr=5000&max_mileage=&vehicleYearOfManufacture=2005&vehicleRegLetter=05)

Whats the average price of a 1.6 these days?

Whats the MPG like on the 1.6?

Am I wrong in thinking the saloon has a different spoiler from the hatch and would the saloon spoiler be to big to go onto the hatch?

If you know of any topics that point this stuff out feel fee to link me, I did have a quick look at the stickys.

:hi: to the forum.

The hatch and saloon have different spoilers Jay has fitted the saloon version to his hatch, takes some work. The mk2 180 bodykits were an option on the 1.6 and 1.8s and derv so some have them and some don't depends on the final cost when new. They do look the business when fitted. Not sure on the price but you can get a 180 for the same or less. The one in the link is specified as having a lifetime warranty, that would be useful! Any K-series engines is subceptical to head gasket failure if not looked after, they don't all 'go', only those ill treated.

I'm sure a few will pitch in with further info on the 1.6. Build quality was not as good as the mk1's purely due to 'project drive' where the later builds were subject to penny pinching by MGR.

Just to add a few things regarding the car in the link that it also has the 11-spoke 17" alloy and the large hatch spoiler which both of these items would have been optional extra.

Are you ready for less acceleration? That ZS will be slower than your ZR.

Thanks for the reply guys.

Yes im well aware it will be slower and to me thats a good thing. Im on my seccond year owning a car with 0 points and I would like to keep it that way.

Im going to keep my ZR untill Nov (when insurance runs out) then see whats around. I had the HG done on my ZR so will put some money aside for any such problems.

Compared to a 1.4 ZR will this be about the same costs on petrol?

possibly not. my rover 416 went every bit as well as my rover 214. there isnt a lot in weight difference between the zr/200 and the zs/400.

why do you want the 1.6 zs not the 1.8? Might as well just go for the 1.8 as they are easyer to find anyway

it is a nice car but you can get much lower milage mk 2 180s for less than that price. Lifetime warranty looks good tho providing hgf etc is covered. The warranty is only as good as the coverage

I think the insurance will be alot higher, I will get some quotes. Also wouldnt runnig costs be higher on the 1.8

no iirc the 1.4/1.6/1.8 are essentially the same engine with bigger boresvand pistons

I think is because the example he found is a 1.6, a very nice example it is too.

I thought the k series block was the same on all versions from 1.1 up to 1.8 and the diffrence capacity was in the head and cams etc.

All K series engines have head gasket issues, mostly because there is a small coolant capacity which was designed to speed up warm up to help efficancy.

The only problem I could think of will be the hydraulic clutch mechanisum, soon cured with a sheddist kit.

No it wont! official figures from MGR:
ZS 110 (1.6) 0-60 = 9.8 seconds
ZR 105 0-60= 10 seconds

Not only that but the 1.6 k series has significantly more torque.

MPG for the ZS 110 and 120 are virtually the same and there isnt much in it in terms of insurance groups, the 120 is group 12 and the 110 is group 10. I think they are in the same tax band too and if they arent there wont be much of a difference.
I moved up from a 1.4 ZR to a 1.8 ZS and the ZS is so much better in every way. I do miss the ZRs looks though.

as i said my rover 416 was every bit a quick as my rover 214. they are indeed the same tax bands. insurance will be a tad higher for the 120 over the 110 but not a lot.

Tbh I love my ZR but I think the ZS is more 'grown up'. Speed isnt an issue at all. When my insurance runs out i'll be looking at the 1.6 and the 1.8 however the final call with be the cars looks and condition. I will be getting a nice '+' this time around for sure.

The Insurance group will vary depending on the year as the later models had improved security and dead locks, Not certain but think 03 or 53 120s are group 11,

Sure someone can correct me if wrong
