saloon doesn't handle better, tried and tested it over about 4 years and goodness knows how many track days, I wouldn't say either is better than the other but fact is the hatch is a little quicker around a lap, they do handle very slightly differently but unless your chasing every tenth of a second then you may as well just say they are both equal.
I prefer the hatch, it has a bit less weight and a tiny bit more flex at the rear, this makes it very slightly less prone to oversteer under certain, right on the limit conditions.
Ive been behind a few saloons over steering where my hatch could just hold the line.

I am hopefully getting my car weighed on Monday. Stripped out with light seats. Should be interesting to see how much the full set of seats weigh!

removing all seats saves approx 70-80 kilos in a hatch, slightly more in a hatch than a saloon as theres more metal in them.
