Epic journey Blair and great to see that you and Kat have recovered a 180 from they southerners,,
Look forward to your plans with the car... |
Well finally arrived home and will give a quick explaination without getting angry lol.
All was going well until nearing Gretna when the engine light came on. First though was the decat (which is very new) had triggered it but to be safe pulled on to the hard shoulder to quickly check. Then the car didn't start again. Battery dead! Phoned Dumfries and Galloway police who couldn't send out a traffic unit (probably in a field with the sheep!) and didn't do anything for an hour 'til I called them to say WTF. They then sent a Recovery vehicle (not at my request but was in dangerous position, ie hard shoulder where they'd left me for an hour!) who planned on seizing my car, taking it to Carlisle and leaving me in Gretna with no transport. Cost: ?150 for call out and ?40 per day storage! Paid the ?150 (wish I'd planned AA or something, hindsight and all that) and got him to dump me and the car at Gretna Service Station where I waited for Kat to arrive and, my saviour, I got the car jump started instantly. I thought the alternator wasn't working but the car started up when I arrived home and switched it off then on. But then I didn't have on wipers/satnav/fogs/stereo/AC etc etc running on the final journey. Early diagnosis, the car was sat for weeks and struggled to turn over initially. I guess I just put too much strain on the battery before it got a chance to charge. I will test it out more tomorrow in the day and will fit VIS kit too as I think one of the motors are not functioning but easy fix, did my last one too. At the end of a slightly more epic journey than planned, the Zed is home and running pretty well. Door handle needs fixed but other than that it is in excellent nick for 10 years old. No rips on bolster, new decat, alloys have no, and I mean NO kerb marks whatsoever and the belts were done 4,000 miles ago with reciept for ?550 to prove it! The future is bright, the future will be xpower green. |
LOL. cant believe Dumfries Plod left you hanging,,,, Good on Kat to come to your rescue
(can see why you are marrying the good lass) sounds like a good nights kip is whats needed now... |
defo! Kat is working at 7am so she'll be having a nap later on!
I'm tired/excited and want to play with my new toy but the decat makes it a little tooo noisy! |
Glad yer back, an epic journey.
|
at least yer up the road bud, after the epic journey, just get her sorted an all will be good mate!
|
Dam mate you were just down the road from me, i am at Carlisle. if i had known i could have fetched my tow rope and pulled you off the motorway. oh well never mind. least you got it all sorted and back home.
|
Glad you're back home safe mate. Top other half you have there. Good on you both.
Hope the car works OK for you. |
Sounds like a bit of a nightmare. but glad you all got home safe and sound ,hope you get the niggles sorted quickly and start enjoying the car
|
Only just seen this, Congrats in being back in a ZS, sounds like an epic journey. Ive got a spare alternator if needed, also Let me know if you could do will a MIL kit.
When do we get pictures of the Zed and your console mods?! |
An epic trek right enough, least you both got home safely:) kat be needing a good rest when she finishes work. Enjoy the tinkering with it:)
|
Apart from having a wee altercation with a wall getting into my drive (thank god it's getting vinyls to cover the scrape lol) the car appears to be fine, battery seems fine and not losing charge, the car starts with no issues and just did a 100 mile trip to fife and back with no issues so reckon the battery was almost drained when I got it and with having everything hooked up ie sat nav, phone, iPod, lights, wipers, stero etc it never got a chance to charge.
And Jay, the centre console mod was for getting a mk2. That project will be on the back burner until I get a mk2 after the wedding for my daily drive 180. This project is purely track fun so seats will be out, weight loss diet, stereo out, new back box to suit decat, induction and btcc replica vinyls. Will be doing that once it's gone through MOT in November then up to Knockhill for racing! |

Yeah was raining the entire journey!
Once it's completed the MOT, I will be happy to get it on track. I assume the previously interested parties in racing theMGZS.co.uk track car are still in fact interested? |
I am still interested
|
Good stuff, i take it you will be saving the items you are removing from the 180? That should give you a decent amount of money back that was spent on buying it, so an even greater bargain lol
What sort of design you going for with the vinyls? :) *edit* just seen the BTCC post in the other thread:) |

So either get down there soon as and hope they still have the enamal ones ( pots with metal lids) otherwise I wouldnt recommend the waterbased ones as wont be as good. Certainly if you plan to do lots of track days!! Pity as they were good. |
