there would be no point in that lol, Il see what i can do, but I kept up just about with that m3 in my 1.8vvc tro and that felt nowhere near like this lol...

Getting the brakes fitted this weekend, finding a track day soon once i got a spare couple of coilpacks. then pod in january if the weathers ok.. then turbo rebuild, then more tracks. And in the mean time i am fitting oil dials etc etc etc. Taking it to matt for a suspension setup. :)

Bobdope2002 09-11-11 06:54 PM

i have some brembo brakes which is a rovertech thing from a 406, they are 328mm iirc and have a bit more meat than the wilwoods. but yet to be teasted in anger i suppose, also they require special wheels etc.

looking foward to your build :)

Yep that's what I've got, went to fit them last nite but after an hr I could not figure it untill it was confirmed I had the r8 adaptors lol!

Gotta be better than the single bucket caliper and discs.

The updated smt7 piggy back unit arrived today from
Drew so that's going on to start with and a chat with dv power about the heads is going to take place.

Been sent the number of the engine guy from QED so will give him a shout about installing the pistons and liners. Prob get the whole bottom end balanced at the same time.

May hav to request an outing in the new toy when I get the charger, that is if it's up and running

suspension set up......thats a great idea tbh.
i used to have notes on all diferent settings id tried and i had found a set up i liked but that doesnt mean it was the best it could be.....and besides i dare say the last owner fiddled anyway.
Keep your eye on the front top arm bolts, i had one side come loose and it caused mot fail,, flippin wheel was wobbling !!...no probs just nipped it back up, but summat to check when your fettling. ...was drivers side.
another thing on my to do list, was stiffen up the rarb to reduce roll a bit , car 13 told me how to do it, just by tack welding a rod down the bar....sounds a bit like guess work but he swore by it. Maybe summat to talk to Matt about.?
Reason i never fitted rear adjustable arms on is because generally a good guide to camber is to have double the negative camber on the front compared to the rear, and with the rear being lowerred thats about what it was without dialling in anymore. Iirc the fronts were 3.4 degrees and the rears 1.6 degrees.

edit , wonder how it will go on at pod what with 1st gear being somewhat sensitive for want of a better description, lol.

Hello mate, the brembos are a fair conversion, so its just a mix up of parts from other cars they work very well, if anything changes il be in touch as you never know....

Hi Dave, I have so much to learn all things you already know, i really want to give it a spanner check and once the wheels are of and my workshop is finished I will get it on 4 jacks and go over it. I really have no idea what the other fella did as he claimed to have made it 370 bhp with new turbos etc, but as i said the turbos never been of I can tell.

Need to see what matt reckons as i havnt a driving style i suppose i would like it tight to turn in with little back end movement as possible. But am yet to test the car. I was thinking of getting some rear strut braces, but i assumed they would do a simular thing to the cage?

Pod- No idea. I havnt actually tried to pull away in first in anger lol, I might copy what Ed did and launch in second he had great results....

petet16 10-11-11 07:43 PM

I'd agree with the Brembo comments, they are a proper brake set up, for the price they deliver excellent stopping power, an additional bonus is that being oe fitment you don't need to keep fettling them as you would a more competition set up.

Quadcam24 10-11-11 08:13 PM

best just test it / drive it and then see what you think, my ideas might have been totally different to where you will go and its nigh on impossible to say one is right and one is wrong.
I would just say find something you are comfortable with and then just build some confidence from a known base line, and only change / tweek one handling part at a time, that way you can see the effects of what you have done and revert back if it doesnt work. If you do like i did more than once and change a few things at once, then i didnt know what was causing what, so it made it hard to understand what was happening and why.
It is an intimidating car to try and drive quickly around a race track , simply because you build up high speed so quickly, i found i was arriving at every corner much faster than i ever had before and regardless of what folk think its blumming difficult to learn....it was certainly capable of more than i ever got out of it !
Tell you what though, when you can be confident enough to drive it hard and yet still keep it all controlled, its such a rush.......damn im jealous ;-))

Aaaaaah, you will soon be hounding everything else on track and making my laptimes look tardy....ya bitch , rflmao.
Its a good job you live nowhere near me else id be round everyday interfering, lol.

Supercharged_Z 10-11-11 08:27 PM

Haha Dave. Im really pleased i got it, it lives in my works workshop so nice and clean, its got everything i want, finally we can get on lol.. As i have said in my Pm's your welcome of a drive once i have learnt the ropes.

Im trying to find a ZS120 badge atm lol only thing i will take of is the 300 badge.. got a lot of dash work to do as thats not that tidy anymore sadly. Plus trying to find the correct dials to fit to the stack Gauges. oil temp, coolant temp, fuel pres, oil pres, boost, and more. want quality but at a good price and to match ... some effort.

Was seeing bedford at the end of the month..... might have to book.

Also I am amazed at how well it starts and idles from cold. It dosnt idle perfect but imo it shouldnt, it just gives it that little "im a tuned mother******* engine" lol

zsserbia 10-11-11 09:25 PM

So it will be beauty and the beast all in one package. Some M3's are going to be jealous I can tell! Great car.

carmadbaker 11-11-11 05:24 AM

That would be fun indeed, i dont think this would do brilliant at pod due to the suspension setup etc but its still good fun, as i say im going to go in january just to get a idea of the terminal speed etc and go from there

I got hold of some 3mm but it maybe a little thick for my needs, tried to find
2mm but no luck.

The quaife arrived and I must say it's a work of art!!

Problem I think is the gauges I am using are not very deep, hence I don't have the issues u had with them hitting the heating ducts that are left behind in the dash.
However I don't mind how they are sitting at the moment.

The bracket is stepped, does the larger L shape go on the rhs?

Paul

I was wondering where this car had gone to? Met Dave over Coombe a few years ago when this was first on the scene. I was really surprised at how nice this car was in the flesh as I was expecting it to be knocked about from track use etc but it was awesome looking as well as performance.

Quadcam24 31-12-11 06:03 PM

hows the turbo zs going ross.?

Supercharged_Z 31-12-11 08:35 PM

HiDave

Replied to your pm

Car is going ok not done a great dealers to waiting for my brakes to turn up

I have fitted my gauges and brakes with naff discs, I have cleaned the car up inside and out, not done the turbo yet as bdm have been really poor at comming back to me so might use somebody else for the rebuild. I don't think bdm replace the seals when doing the hybrid as they want to charge me just as much for the rebuild as to make one a hybrid.

Took it out with road Tyres on he other week and decided that's a no no so going to look at the kumho track tire in hard compound as much better priced than r888 which are now 160 plus quid a corner.

Will get some new pcs up one day soon.

Oh and I also fitted a light weight heater which is so much nicer than no heat at all

Sorry for the mass of spelling mistakes I typed this on I phone with a beer in my hand lol happy new year

Ross

Supercharged_Z 11-01-12 07:57 PM

Just a little update to all

finally got around to taking the turbo off, jeezus there is a lot of play in the shaft, anyway thats of for a refurb right now.. Am amazed at the size of it though, its so powerful for such a small unit.

Got a new windscreen going in soon as the one fitted is cracked.

finally my disks turned up and they were worth the wait!!
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a29...0_ti/photo.jpg

got the dials installed a while ago much better, not got the perspex installed yet though

boost, coolant temp
oill pres, oil temp

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a29...0_ti/dials.jpg

as mentioned above got the lightweight heater installed too..

few plans to come, nothing to major though.

here it is at home in the workshop :)
