Jay-ZS+ 07-07-10 02:59 PM

What did they value the car at? Hope it all works out for you :)

grimmy 07-07-10 03:08 PM

No way Andy thats a sickener, the car was looking really good as well

stamford 07-07-10 03:50 PM

I'd hazard a guess @ ?3500 that it is a breaker only, so no buy back allowed unless you are a registered breaker.

nath86 07-07-10 04:05 PM

Gutted for you!!! make sure your ins dont take the pi** and offer you a low offer, glad ya missis is ok and thats the main thing, a bit of metal can be replaced at the end of the day! hope all goes smoothly for you, best wishes :)

Craig 07-07-10 05:36 PM

Thats bad news mate! I hope your excess aint too bad or you might end up with not very much payout considering it was a cat c before I got it.

my insurance company made me pay the excess as there was noone to claim off

MG6Turbo 07-07-10 10:34 PM

Your excess has to be paid whether the cars repaired or written off.. Thats what it is there for.

The excess can be claimed back if you have had to pay it through no fault of your own.

Since your misses crashed the car, it means the excess will be deducted from the pre accident value of the car.

I would seriously opt for buying it back.

So if your car was valued at ?3000.00, you would get back ?2500.00 if your excess was ?500.00

if its cat B he can't m8 thats what gutted me about mine

andys1981 08-07-10 02:53 PM

right guys heres the deal,as it was a cat c write off there only, offering me 895,minus my excess of 200,minus rest of payments 275.01,leaves 419.19,minus buying her back,89.50,need to get her trailered to my house tho put her on the drive,i can put her back on the road, but need a new mot vic check,i will get 330 plus my car back honest opinions guys, cheers,i will phone them back when ave got enough replys, let me know if its worth trying to fix,or break, dont really wanna break it tho

Craig 08-07-10 03:09 PM

Firstly refuse the offer. Its pretty ****. Whatever happens, buy it back, you cant lose on it. Engines gotta be worth 500 minimum, spoiler at least 200, then interior etc you could have more than a grand in bits mate.

In all honesty I thought It was probs worth a grand as a whole car seeing it was already a cat c before I got it.

yeah there hitting me with they cant see any around my area with cat c damage to reflect the price tho, just want her back lol

Craig 08-07-10 03:16 PM

Thats their tuff ****. You have to refuse the 1st offer. It was worth more than 900 quid pre accident. I always said the car was worth more in parts.

Maxfly 08-07-10 03:18 PM

Got to agree wi craig, get that first offer tae ****:) seems to be a common ploy by insurers to make the first offer as low as possible in the hope that it's just taken!!

Then decide if you want to fix up the old girl or break her for bits. As said breaking will net you a better return but if you want to fix her up nowt wrong with that either:)

Craig 08-07-10 03:21 PM

Also, get the plate off it. Its worth 400 quid mate

Phate 08-07-10 03:31 PM

Refuse that offer!

It's worth 2.5k atleast. Give them a list of things you have done to it to help push this, plus send them adverts to similar cars for that sort of money. :)

stamford 08-07-10 03:36 PM

Most companies don't go into 1st offers anymore, it's a case of take it or leave it these days. No harm in trying though, but as it is already a cat c then this may harm the real valuation. Break it, as long as you have the time and the room to do so.

andys1981 08-07-10 03:51 PM

tbh a dont think they will go much higher plus a need another car,and a trailer to bring her back, home as a cant drive it with nae ins,al just park it up the drive thats only 3 wks old, dont know what to do,if i refuse the first offer,it may take a while,is there a kinda time limit,eg my cars in stirling, will i get charged storage or that

I think they will come back to ye pretty quick as they will want things done an dusted as much as you mate:) Not sure on the storage question mind you.....

At least you can christen the drive with something i suppose, an gives you space to strip her doon:)

ljr09 08-07-10 07:42 PM

Insurers only pay out a standard book price on vehicles unless you as the customer can prove your vehicle warrants more, if you provide numerous photos of both interior and exterior showing how clean the car was they will have to up their offer in order for you to be able to purchase a vehicle in similar condition - i had an audi a6 some yrs ago and received an appalling first offer but i provided photos showing the immaculate condition and then received an increase of ?900 to enable me to buy like for like, so its def worth pressing for an increase, also details of work done / recent receipts helps too - good luck

Steves Cleenz 08-07-10 08:14 PM

you dont need to MOT or VIC check it if you kept the V5 ;), mine had just passed the MOT when mine got hit, and i never MOT'd again untill it was due again, didnt have a problem with taxing it either, mine is still on the register of needing a VIC check but doesnt affect me as i still have the V5

Bad times mate! Look on the bright side though, you will make a **** load back on the parts.

rough guess

engine - 500
spoiler - 200
interior - 150
wheels - 200
headlights - 50
grill - 50
brakes - 100
pannels - 200?

Thats nearly 1500 and theres more to sell, add the plate and your more than 2000
