Thank you, that table perfectly backs up exactly what i said about the 180 being faster in every respect. Otherwise what would be the point of making it the range topper ?

exactly i still dont see any evidence of a 115 td being anywhere close through the gears with out a short shifter

Don't get me wrong, a diesel has it's place in modern society but a sports diesel is the biggest contradiction in terms ever ! Yes they have great MPG, yes they have great torque figures but the power band is so narrow it counts for practiacly nothing. I got caught behind a new Saab 9-3 diesel last night coming back from Snetterton on the A17/16. I couldn't get by at first due to traffic but every over take he did i was right on his tail. When a gap appeared i took the opportunity to get by him. He was caining the life out of this Saab (the disgusting stinky black smoke gave that one away!) but he still couldn't hold a candle to the 180. He was driving like a loon to try to keep up with me but the raw fact remains it just didn't have the power. And for the record, these Saab diesels have 148 BHP which is substantialy more than a ZS TD ! If you're still not convinced a ZS180 is quicker than a ZS TD then come along to Cadwell Park race circuit in a few weeks where i will be doing a track day. I'm willing to put a sizable bet on it, like the keys for my house ! :cool2:

I think you should try it on against Donnydiesel..his lowly rover 400 diesel only has 180 odd bhp and megga buckets of torque..I'm sure you could easily wup him
It costs just £250 to get 140bhp out of a ZS diesel with more torque than your 180 can muster...just work out how much it costs to get a 39 bhp hike out of your motor..cause I know how much it costs... |

As for the 180 being faster in gear he seems to have removed it now but Ron had a table showing that a superchipped 45TD was faster for all the in gear acceleration figures than the ZS 180 and the ZT 190. TBH Matt your typical of the petrol snobs who discount a diesel. Just because the powerband "feels" narrow doesnt mean it is narrow. Having driven a ZS180 there really isnt anything below 3krpm and it runs out of usable puff at 6krpm so thats 3krpm in my book. My TD pulls with much more urge from 1600 all the way to 4500 so i see that as being 100 rpm less, big deal. As for the saab diesel so what if it does have 148 bhp, bhp is not what makes a car move, torque does. |
Nowt wrong with a Diesel, however I think we were comparing out the box performance not modded.
The diesel is easier to mod/gain BHP as are all Turbo cars, diesel or petrol. Seen the results on .org from the injector & they are superb Shroon |
