I have used a trolly jack on a bolt that wont budge - use the longet bar you have, rest it on the jack and gently raise - the weight of the car does the trick normally.
When I was regularly doing maestro/montego CV bolts I had access to a 5ft 3/4" bar - that did the trick. |
Is it the join between the back box and mid or the mid and cat ?
If they are siezed solid then with a good 6 point socket and a breaker bar they should just shear off with brute force .If you use a 12 point socket you are much more likley to round the bolts off. Back box and mid can be to cramped to ket a grinder in there. |

I never bother undoing the hub nut! It's easyer to pop out the lower ball joint and track rod joint. That will give enough room to pop out the shaft from the Cv joint to do the boot. I saw a colleague undo the upper arms on a civic with the same result but not used that way myself. The exhaust bolts are 10mm and should as already stated snap off so new bolts can be used. Stainless is the best bet there ;)

Well its back from the garage with the bolt loosened and the exhaust correctly fitted now. Much happier and looking forward to tackling the cv joint now the bolt has been loosened!
Exhaust sounds similar to my Powerflow one on the mk2 180. |
