Lower Engine mount L Series
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...o/IMG_0826.jpg
this is the cause of my downpipes shearing off... apparently!?!? does anyone know where i can get a direct replacement or upgraded lower engine mount? |
I thought so, but its a complete sealed unit.... the bar seems to got from one mount to the other? almost like a dumbell..
You just unbolt both ends of the bar, remove it, and push the old bush out and replace with the poly one.
the ones you have in the pic, are they split so the go either side of the joining bar? Do the rubber bushes need to be cut off as they look to be a sealed around the bar?
The ones in the pic are split yes, so half pushes in from each side, the big bush isn't sealed to the bar afiak, I changed one on a 180 which uses the same set up and the bush pushed out really easily.

I see what you mean it does look as if it's bonded to the bar, but it isn't. |
ok.... so i need some of these asap! lol where ? is it the same on the 180? i've found a listing on ebay for what looks like squared off bushhttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MG-ZR-ZS-T...item4ab4d7fa6c, and even a complete "tie bar"http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MG-ZS-Engi...item2ebcf39e27 is this a job i can do myself withought a ramp?
The orange bush has been rounded to improve it's performance, if you leave them squared off they transmit more noise and vibration, the bar you've linked to on ebay won't fit a diesel unfortunately.
The bush mumby sells is fine as long as you soften the corners (as Pete said) I even rifled the internal mateing surfaces to further reduce unwanted vibration.
Cheers for all your help pete :) ... I'll order up the bush, and see if i can do the work myself:)
I have a spare bar soon if you want to add bushes to bar the swap them, pass on the original bar though please. Postage cost only, no impromptu selling here.
Pm sent, so to clarify, the bar( which is the same on a 180?) unbolts, rubbers pop off, out, new ones go in?
The reason am asking so many questions. The chap at powerflow said the rubbers could not be changed as it was a sealed unit.....
Your man at Powerflow is mistaken.
Some are, I know the TF steady bar is glued in and requires burning out but 45/ZS ones will literally drop out. Worn ones will anyway.
Ah you need it in a hurry, will post tomorrow, ignore waffling in my pm.
Aye that would be mint! Need to get it sorted asap, can't weld my down pipe until its fixed! :(

Not sure why you need a new bar? And arent there bushes available for the other side as well?

Yes, but for like £20! Deemed not worth it I think, upper only though - I may be talking rubbish, just noticed the TD uses a different bar then the 180. Would it be inadvisable to use the wrong one? see top left, cheers for the pic Roverdose. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5...tabilisers.jpg Not the same as the one Pete pictured at all. |
Ok.... An getting totally confused now, I have a set if the large bushes now, they arrived today, are the bushes different on the180? mine is a diesel after all?
The large bush is the same, the Mumby ones are Orange, and I reprofiled them to make sure they didn't transmit any more noise/vibration than the standard bush, the other Yellow ones are either Powerflex or Superflex, same bush, different colour.
I see your confusion now, the lower bar in Duckfeets pic won't fit a diesel.
Am still confused.... Lol
Can I replace the old bushes, the large ones with new poly ones(orange) using my existing bar? I just have to take it off?

All done. Old one dropped straight out, new one popped in! Now to get the down pipe sorted and a good old service:)
Good stuff, pleased with the new bush ?
Yeah, actually there is s discernible difference, of course there is more vibration, but its not like being In a food mixer! Lol feels good actually ? Full opinion when down pipe is sorted :)
Did you round the edges on it, that makes all the difference with vibration.
Not yet, I wanted to see what it was like 1st, it's really not that bad, it make the car feel a little raw, but lets face it.... I bought an MG not a 45! Lol
