one side lower

Seems I have the front o/s lower tthan the nearside. Don't know why so will have to investigate. I have a spare car on the drive so might change all the legs over. Anyone else had this?

petet16 10-10-12 07:29 PM

Yep, pretty common, how much lower are we talking.

Steve mead 10-10-12 07:39 PM

Not far off 3/4 to an inch

petet16 10-10-12 07:45 PM

That's quite a bit, a few mm is not unusual but that's about 20mm, a cracked spring is a possibility.

peterzs 10-10-12 07:45 PM

Thought you had set it up for Brands, like that!!!!

Steve mead 10-10-12 07:49 PM

Can@t see any obvious signs but will cange all the legs next weekend. I don't think the Zs will handle like a formula ford Pete, must remember that when we are there. Are you coming down that day?

peterzs 10-10-12 07:52 PM

Yep, see you there.

You could have mismatched rear springs, quite possibly from when the car was new, another classic is finding the wrong anti roll bars fitted at build.

Steve mead 22-10-12 04:18 PM

Well all swopped over and guess what, car is still lower one side at the front.

petet16 22-10-12 04:23 PM

Did you compare the free length of the springs ?, is it still the same height difference.

Steve mead 22-10-12 04:26 PM

the car it all came off of is sitting on the drive we use it as spares. It sits perfect all round so the mystery deepens.

petet16 22-10-12 04:33 PM

Odd indeed, I'm not sure what else would affect the height, things like collapsed and worn bushes you'd notice because they'd clonk when you drive

Nobrainer 12-11-12 09:25 PM

Did you get this sorted Steve? Came out from work tonight to see the rear sitting low on one side. Not had time to investigate yet but dont need this two weeks before a track day!

Steve mead 13-11-12 07:15 AM

Changed everything over but still the same, car still handles very well so just going bto leave it. Got the exhaust blowing now but will do that on the weekend. Will def be at brands on the 3rd.

peterzs 13-11-12 07:23 AM

Did you swap nsf to osf or put back as nsf??

Just wondering if the cars settle down with the additional weight of the driver on the o/s??

;);)

Steve mead 13-11-12 07:27 AM

Changed evrything over from the other car that was sitting level. Once brands is out of the way I will be selling the car so not too bothered now. Be intersesting to see how it sits in the garage at brands as the floors are level.

peterzs 13-11-12 10:02 AM

long as you dont go into the double one that has a step down!!!

Nobrainer 13-11-12 09:44 PM

Imagine you'll have to get there pretty early to get a garage, or its it booked?

DannyZR 13-11-12 10:23 PM

Its normally the shocker that has gone week not the spring had the same problem on a ford at work

Nobrainer 17-11-12 10:32 PM

Sorted my problem. Lifted the car on a jack at the middle rear while i stripped the rear brake sliders and it seems to have sorted it. I do have coilovers.

Steve mead 18-11-12 09:03 AM

Just going to leave mine as Brands will be it's final outing, then decide what to do with it. Buying a c max today so the zed will prob sit on the drive till the summer or depending on the right money it will be sold. Brands will be a good track day.

Nobrainer 18-11-12 09:10 AM

Oh yes. Looking forward to it. Hopefully getting some slicks off Goldie if he is back in time (and it doesnt rain!)
