Engine Swap
Im constanty hearing people going on about turbo cars, Turbo engines, Turbo Conversions etc, i really dont get it. Ive never been a fan of turbo cars (bolt on power). Much prefer the constant power of a V6, V8 or even a V10 (Audi RS6 AVT). Was wondering has anyone ever put the V6 out a ZS in a ZR or even the V8 out a ZT in a ZS ?
|
The audi RS6 is twin turbo
and Ive never saw a v6 In a zr Seen V8's in mk1 focus's and there's a few v6 mk3 astra's rolling around Not much point to dropping a KV6 lump in a ZR when theres so many ZR Turbos |
v6 into zr has been done, v6 into Rover coupe is in progress, zt v8 into a zs, who'd put that boat anchor in the front of a zs lol

I stand corrected that ZR's really smart Its abit of a sleeper

Slightly concerned about this as im constantly seening Audi develop 1.2 and 1.4 turbo A3's. On My Audi Desktop this morning i seen Spy Shots of an A4 1.6T. Which in my opinion is far to small an engine for that size and weight of car. Just my opinion |
can make smaller turbo engines more effiecent and faster than a larger engine these days, new focus has the 1.0 turbo that is the equivelant of the 1.6, and driving it, it is just like driving a 1.6, new st is a 2.0litre direct injection turbo but is putting out more power than the old 2.5l turbo in the last st
basically manufacturer wise its all about emmisions these days and its harder to keep the emmisions down on big n/a engines, and get good fuel effiecency as well, |
I see what you mean I think we'll see allot more bi-turbo cars
I doubt the sort of people that drive audi's would want to be driving a 1.6's though even if its a turbo. |
deep down i know that to be the case. But i still dont like hearing it. Thankfully i work for the right company being a fan of V cars, all though we do have our fair share of turbos as well.

could be wrong ? |
There is even a MGF which is getting a KV6 and I've considered the same for my T16 maestro.

Turbo lag, whats that then:hmmm:

1.6 turbo diesels seem to be the current trend mega boring |
can be as effiecent as they want to make it, how much the turbo actually cuts in ect
|
Ive driven the A3 1.4 TFSI and is is unacceptably slow. I honestly couldnt live with it on a daily basis. And im not just saying that because am use to a 180. Most of my driving is motor way, and anything over 60MPH and it's imposible to overtake. And it was a fortune to run because i constantly had my foot planted to the carpet.
Not for me. Especially at £17.750 OTR |
i drove one of the worst driving cars ever today, a corsa D automatic, just wouldnt move, bad enough as manuals, but this thing just made more noise when you tried to accelerate
|
Thats why I avoided all the 1.6 diesels when picking a car for work I couldn't drive anything under a 2.0 me thinks :)

In total contradiction to everything i have just said, and with reference to what Ritchy was saying about turbos. We have an A1 1.4 TFSI in our range and it has 185 bhp and i must admit, its a right laugh to drive and surprisingly fast on the open road. Would be quite cool as a second car if it were cheaper.
Quite impressive getting 185bhp out a 1.4 even if if is turbo charged & supercharged. What is the general opinion on superchargers, given the F.O.C choice what way would you go for the Zed. Think the supercharger sounds much better than a turbo. |
Regards to small engines with good power.. My Jetta 1.4 TSI 160.. Its Not far off a V6 180. Kept up with my old one.
|
smaller engines mean smaller CO2 bills, especially if its a company car. Thats why the Mondeo lost its 3.0V6 and the 2.5V5 went........In its place you get a 1litre ecotec turbo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, with its free road tax and congestion charge. You ever driven one, god its nasty. Men NEED A REAL ENGINE under them, thats why I got a ZS180. Thats why my ex boss had a Arnage Turbo, a Dodge Viper and a Ford F150.......
