Is this my TPS?
Okay, I have noticed recently that when I lift off the accelerator pedal not a lot happens to start with then all of a sudden it starts slowing (as it should).
I have cleaned the throttle body out and ICV (with new gasket) and checked the action of the spring that operates the butterfly valve. This is the second TPS that has been on the car after the last one threw up an error code. I am not getting any error codes that relate to it this time. Could this be something else? Camshaft/Crankshaft Sensor etc?? I'm stumped!! |
It could be as simple as a sticky throttle cable.

It's a new cable mate, worth greasing it up?
|
got enough slack on the cable???
Know they often have too much, just wondering if its a bit tight and if that would affect it. |
I think we have the same issue. It hasn't bothered me much to now though. When you lift off the gas, it's like she doesn't respond for a full second or two.
I was thinking it's the throttle cable too as very occasionally, when I have lift off and disengage the clutch, the engine continues spinning at 3,000rpm!! Blip on the accelerator pedal and it's back to normal. |
In the old days my MGB had 3 springs to pull the cable back!!!!
|
When I fitted twin choke webbers to my Lada I got the return spring on back to front - that was interesting.
|
Sounds a interesting set up...

Same issue here, was gonna try Kevs how to on this the weekend to see if that resolved the issue?

I would check that the IACV is working properly and seating as designed, only takes a stiff or badly seated mechanism to cause that type of issue.
|
Do you just mean stiff operation of the spring mate, I am pretty sure it's seated right but might be worth checking the spring on the iac, cheers bud!

I cleaned my IACV the weekend and although its probably a little early to say i think its improved the sticking throttle issue i was getting. It tended to occur more in the colder weather and it was quite mild this morning so it may still be the same.
However i did notice an irratic idle once i arrived at work but think that may be down to the gasket as when i removed the IACV the gasket was in two parts. I will order a new one from Rimmer in the week. I cleaned with WD40 and a modified tooth brush then washed out with white spirits. The inside was covered in oil. looking through the hole the removed IACV left i could see the throttle body has a good amount of oil in it also so will need to clean that out to at some point. |

I need to order number 9 but is it worth ordering number 8 instead? What's the bit with 2 prongs for? |
I occasionally get a sticky throttle, but I just sling in a bottle of redex and it goes away. I`ll get around to investigating further when/if it becomes more of a problem than the other problems!
