My MK2 180
Thought Id create a new thread now I am actually starting to do stuff.
Catch tank fitted, very simple job. My only worry is the bracket slightly toucheing the headlight wiring. I'll get some foam on it ASAP. Thanks to Pete. used his pictures as reference. http://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/...8-16-35-05.png http://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/...8-16-35-30.png http://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/...918_164134.jpg Noted this coolant pipe starting to slip off, time for large jubilee clips I think http://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/...918_164203.jpg Cheeky pic from the side. http://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/...918_164255.jpg After the saga with the sheddist bleeding, the OE is back on and it was brilliant on my 350mile round trip to Headley court, new transmission fluid has worked wonders. Once I get the new hose I'll try to fit it again, it doesnt take long. I'll use Snoop to detect any air leaks. Also I can hear my exhaust blowing somewhere, luckily I have x-power cat-back ready to go on. Apologies for amateur photography :p |
Looking good, your engine bay looks very clean makes mine look like it's been rally driving.
|
Cheers, well I have never cleaned it yet lol, Its quite dirty for my liking! Only 31k so it shouldnt look too shabby!
|
Love it.
|
Love it when you see a well looked after motor.
:yay::yay::yay: |
What pipes did you use mate, looks like a very easy, neat job!
|
Aww cheers chaps :)

I was going to go braided, but it looks too over-stated for my liking. Its handy using the 'eye' bracket to support the tight looping hose, gives it the extra support and constant curvature this pipe (IMO) requires. When the ITG full kit is bought, I'll be putting twin Simota tanks where the OE filter housing is currently, space permitting. |
Looking good mate :)
|
Already a nice little puddle in there ;)
|
Looks stunning and very subtle without the spoiler.
|
Looking good mate.
|
Looks great mate
|
Good looking car

Well, couldnt even shear the exhaust bolts! (Backbox to mid)
I put the rear onto ramps, soaked the nuts/studs in plusgas and left for the night. Got underneath full of optimism this morning with a massive wrench, took so much rust off that after initially struggling to get a 17mm socket on them, one was eventually 14 & the other 15. However, all I succeeded in doing was to start rounding the nuts. Not seen studs used for these before, which got me thinking, could they be LH thread? |
Can you get a nut splitter on them, or a bit of heat?????????????

Id buy them, but the MOT is on monday, had to bite the bullet and ask them to fit it. I hate having to resort to the garage! |
Pity you couldnt "borrow", from the works tool box!!!!!!!!!

Bit of camo paint and they might not notice, if you slipped it in to the big garage!!!
|
Exhaust joints are a right pain, when I did mine I tried oil, blow lamp and a nut splitter, none of them worked. Even the nut splitter broke! I ended up giving £20 to the local exhaust fitter to do it on the ramps with oxy-acetylene and an impact gun.
|
MOT Passed with no advisories, They replaced the exhaust for £20! What a difference, even in wet. Power delivery is incredibly smooth, traction can struggle to lay the power down in 1/2/3 with torque-steer which is a new experience for me in the wet, shouldnt be as bad in the dry! Instant throttle response, and it sounds sweet :)
Happy man :) Still scared of touching electrics, I use spanners! Need a volunteer to fit my vis indicators :p |
The viz is easy to fit mate, I can give you a hand. I did mine last week.
|
I could pop over when you are free if you want or vice versa, I have means of paying for help in cash, brews, or ciggies lol :)
Car electrics scare the **** out of me! |
yeh will sort some time. Sundays work best for me.

Always amazes me why they put the gearbox filler hole horizontal, doesnt make it the most simple task to refill them. Although guess fluid change isnt required by service.
|
Nice pics mate and like the gearbox drain pics going to tackle that this weekend myself so now know what exactly to look for.
|
When I filled my gearbox I attached a piece of washing machine hose to the bottle and squeezed it down that. It is a right pita.

2 Funnels really was simple, for me it was as easy as changing the engine oil!
Taking 2 minutes to remove the fuel vapour purge/charcoal cannister or whatever it is, a torque wrench gets straight on it |

As you know, had the car detailed by Steve, just post a couple of pics here for progress purposes.
Also finally got my VIS Indicators fitted, big thanks to Big_Wasa for that, and apologies for being late :p It has confirmed that my Vis are currently working superbly. On the not so good side, we both smelt fuel strongly as Warren was working under the bonnet, so I'll be trying to investigate this before I go away. Looks like I've lost a fair bit of Coolant in the last week too. Not to worry though. http://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/...c/PA210098.jpg http://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/...c/IMGP5509.jpg http://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/...c/IMGP5525.jpg |
As the cambelts have been done my money is on one of the injector rail seals.
Coolant will be the good old stat housing, It will give you some jobs to sort whilst once your back. Infact I think you should leave it with me instead of a car park :tease: |
Haha, well the V is one of my weekly checks, due tomorrow so I'll be in there then.
I agree with what you thought about them seals and bought a set of lower manifolds & fuel rail for £35, even if they turn out to be spares its a good price, if the stat is leaking, perfect time to change them all :D :) Love to leave it with an enthusiast but you dont have the space :p |
Looking good Dave ;)

Its weekly check day, topped the coolant up, didnt need much. No sign of so much as condensation on the dipstick or cap, oil still looks new. Coolant in general has no dark spots or any debris whatsoever. Took it for a good 30 mile trip this morning, no fuelly smell at all, no coolant leak at all. All injectors and fuel connections/rail/injectors are dry. V bay completely dry, just more annoying sponge coming off the cover. Im happy that there is no real issue at the moment. |
Amazing car in the flesh. I bet your loving the this VIS indicator lights in the dark!

They are awesome Steve! By the way, I have a gearknob for you :) mine turned up finally although I really need a new camera
