ZS Favourite roads.

Now we all know that we would love to take our Zeds round the Stelvio pass, but there are some nice little numbers we all love taking our cars round closer to home. After a little discussion today, I sat down and worked out a couple of my favourites. Top of the list is, any roundabout, that you know is empty, so you can sling the Zed round and feel it cling to the road and put a BIG grin on your face.

Now for my list: these are ones that I know of, so if anyone feels like putting their own up, we could make a sort of UK best Zed driving roads..

A) B194 from Waltham Abbey to Harlow, know to the locals as the Crooked Mile. Loads of twists and turns....only down side, not nice if following a slow car.

B) A414 from Hatfield to M1 jct. 1/4 mile down road is a pair of 3exit roundabouts, more of chicanes. Great if road empty as you can almost straight line them.

C) A4061 From Hirwaun to Treorchy, Pows in Wales. Loads of mega bends, on your way down the side of a mountain..Get to Treorchy and Treherbert in bottom of the gorge, and then just blast up the other side. Then follow road as it becomes the A4107 all the way to Port Talbot, through more wonderfully twisty scenic welsh hillside. Used to drive this everytime I marshalled the Wales Rally GB...Glorious, but very scary in the dark. Went back one year in the daylight WOW what fun.....just watch out for the sheep!

D) Parsonage Lane Herts, turn left off the B1184 just outside Sawbridgeworth and head for Green Tye. Gorgeous country lane that opens up into a blinding piece of bends. Great fun even in a company Transit!!!!.

Well thats me for starters.........................................f eel free to post your own, Id love to try some new ones. The ZS is such a drivers car..

The roundabout that isn't a roundabout on the A127

The A414 one was mine!

Round here, the road down the side of Loch long from arrochar. Lots of little short light corners and drops, then across from faslane to loch lomond on the rollercoaster road. Big massive long drops and big sweeping bends.

Fortune of war, is a great non roundabout roundabout. Can really throw the car through it and get a sweet drive out the otherside :D

The road coming home from work is a favourite of mine.but weirdly its **** in the morning.

talkingcars 16-06-13 08:47 PM

I quite enjoy any of the routes home from work - some interesting lanes or a rat run around the estates of Crawley before hitting the dual carrageway or the most direct route which is all dualcarrage way and roundabouts, this is the way I normally go to work.

Unusually they have actually improved it by adding an interesting offset roundabout.

Locally I also enjoy the A29 from Horsham to Billingshurst and onto the A272 through Petworth, Midhurst, Petersfield finishing in Winchester.

Ah yes I know this one as we drive that way when staying at the Hellingly Travelodge.

All the following are when tourists are minimal, most roads out of Fort William and Inverness, minus the tedious A9 and the A96. An round tomintoul too. As said tourists bumbling along at 30-40 are the main problem but get shot of them and especially the A82 for some reason produces a smile on my face:D

As soon as you get past loch lomond mist roads are great, so many happy memories driving up there

talkingcars 16-06-13 10:43 PM

we had some fun above Loch Lomand a few years ago in the F.

A9 from Helmsdale to Latheron is my favourite.....hairpins, 13% inclines/descents long straights, lots of z's.....just lots of grins!

When I was down South the old A50 from Leicester to Northampton (now the A5199) was good on my z6r bike.....cooked a few batteries!

A354 Wimborne - Shaftsbury

The coast road from Padstow to Newquay is awesome. I grew up down there. Nowadays it is busy pretty much all the time, but it is better at night anyways as you can see if cars are coming easier!

maxtherotti 17-06-13 06:44 AM

My faves are the A361 from banbury to daventry (did it dailey for 5 years on bikes and with the zs love it!!)
Now its the coast road from Bridport to weymouth when the tourists aint doing 5mph to look at chesil beach!!!

A pot of money Dan. It's been sorned since Nov '12 due to the holiday balance and spending money etc and now my dad's passing so it's not on my list of things to do. The longer it sits the more it needs to become roadworthy. x4 new tyres, two ball joints, brake fluid flush, ideally new brakes all round including discs and hoses, MOT and tax, so not much just expensive.

Once we have laid my dad to rest perhaps it'll be a welcome diversion and gradually get it looking good again. But it'll take a while as I don't have the money going spare to get it done in one hit.

Sorry to take the thread off topic. Hope to take in some driving roads when the zed is restored to good health. I still aim to take it up north for some action and see some of our northern friends, assuming I have some holiday left!

Inverness to Perth is sooooooo boring......everytime I drive it I think cruise control!

Stamford if you are ever up in Thurso give me a shout and you can borrow my zed td and give it a good thrashing up and down the A9....you just pay for the diesel and the speeding fines!!!

I never thrash my own or a friends car, just hire cars ;)

pb25 17-06-13 02:58 PM

Ahhh but my zed needs to be shown who's boss now and again!!!

Steven11 17-06-13 04:06 PM

You need to stretch your cars legs every now and again. No point in having a fast car if you're gona drive everywhere slow.
