Can I get some opinions please

Having a look about And I found this

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2018776.htm

I can always change the gearnob as I already have one......lol

Maxfly 16-09-10 12:16 PM

have to say it's a nice tidy looking zs that. Other than gearknob from photos it's the usual of needing badges changed but looks well kept!! Worth a view:beer2:

stamford 16-09-10 12:22 PM

Looks tidy enough and worth a look if it ticks all of your boxes. Wind up windows all round, that'll need an upgrade.

peterzs 16-09-10 12:28 PM

Clean looking motor, look at the inside of the oil filler cap and the dipstick for signs of head gasket failure, if there is a mayo looking sludge stuff there, could be a sign. Also have a look at the water container, should be a clear pinky colour.

Always worth going for a test drive to see how it goes, mate, or if any one on here is nearby, maybe they could take it out with you.

Always go in low with the price, and let them come back.

:happy::happy::happy:

coreygraham180 16-09-10 12:34 PM

Deffo first thing that I would do... After the gear knob

Its sad mate I know, but really that's all its worth, on paper anyway. Parkers price is ?1280 for a good condition private. Ok it does have the kit so it's probably worth a little more and these cars look so good that it just takes the right buyer to turn up and love it.

Despite what I just said, I certainly wouldn't let it go very any less than 2k and I'm sure he'll get around that figure.

coreygraham180 16-09-10 03:21 PM

Had another look and found this one a bit closer has a bit more miles but that dosent bother me I might ask for some more pictures too

But what would us value this one at???

stamford 16-09-10 03:56 PM

MK1 straights don't suit it, question as to why the originals are not on it. Tyres look wrong too, profile looks too high. Might be me as mine are like o-rings!

coreygraham180 16-09-10 04:09 PM

I can see what u mean might. Texthim and see

peterzs 16-09-10 05:51 PM

Offer him Parkers guide price.

Parkers price is ?1280 for a good condition private. Ok it does have the kit so it's probably worth a little more

Say its got the wrong wheels, and the bumper will cost ?250 to put right!!

ah, probs for the wonga then:D maybe swapped wi cash his way for they wheels he has the noo:)

coreygraham180 16-09-10 08:23 PM

Well had a word with the boy and he said he wanted 2000 and he dose have the original alloys for the car!!??

And there is no service history as his dad serviced it

peterzs 16-09-10 08:33 PM

Have the belts been done? Not as expensive as the 180's but if not done will cost a few hundred, see if he will throw in the other wheels and you could flog off the others.

?2000 is a starting point, think its all down to how the car feels and goes.

:happy::happy:

Ritchy 16-09-10 08:33 PM

that all sounds fine, look at the rear end in particular though for colour match on that bumper, that lip isnt meant to be painted look in the boot for any damage to the wheel well and dont be afraid to have a lie underneath

look for usual like colour of coolant it should be clean red, if its blackish then thats a sign the cooling systems not in good condition, check the radiator for corrosion esp at the bottom, oil should be clean and see through on the dipstick, if its black its had a lack of servicing, also checlk all the buttons inside work like horn wipers on differnt speeds, heated rear window fog lights ect, if the buttons dont light up/work it might not be a simple fix it could be an SCU even though it is rare for them to go on the zs

coreygraham180 16-09-10 08:41 PM

I forgot to say he is getting the bit on the back of the bumper fixed

Ritchy 16-09-10 08:54 PM

yeah but the fact its painted red the bottom lip might mean its been in a bump and had a 45 bumper or somthing put on so check the spare wheel well for buckling

KevG 16-09-10 08:56 PM

This ane looks like it has had a whack on the rear as Ritchy says, all Mk2 MG's never came with the rear apron painted, only the Rover 45 did.
http://cdn.images.pistonheads.com/ai.../2018776-7.jpg

Aye this is Swanies auld car, it had HGF, but has been repaired, and also has the passenger rear door spat missing

coreygraham180 16-09-10 09:07 PM

So the red one has maby had a bash then

Wouldnt rule it out!

Ritchy 16-09-10 09:10 PM

have a look at it bud if theres no damage inside the boot its fine, pull the bootcarpet up and look, the bumpers can be brittle mine cracked when it rolled low speed into a rock, so had to replace mine, no other damage was done so worth looking

coreygraham180 16-09-10 09:15 PM

Yeeh I think that the red ones a bit far away but the green one is in lanark so I may pay him a vist I think that the green one looks a bit better too

Ritchy 16-09-10 09:18 PM

green one has fog lights already which is a bonus, if its got leccy windows id go for it, get a new aerial and take the stickers off n itd look real nice

+1 Even better if the original wheels are included in the price:D

Sure a spat would turn up so you would get that in time too:)

As said already check it has been serviced, even if you can check things like the pollen filter that are easy forgotten about....if it has one?!?!

Fuel filter, does it look like it was fitted when Peter was a boy?? Air filter, is it blacker than a miners wotsit?

Ritchy 16-09-10 09:27 PM

did they make fuel filters for coal?

coreygraham180 16-09-10 09:35 PM

Yeeh I like the green one as has a bit of history here and I got an insurance quote for it at 1215 a year so might be a good option

coreygraham180 16-09-10 09:36 PM

P.s and I never even noticed that the spat was missing in the first place

My first car was a 10 hp ford special, with a ford 8 hp cylinder head and twin carbs, fiberglass body, like the old merc 300 sl.

Great days, you lot dont know how lucky you are, with all the great, safe, cars around now.

:clap::clap::clap::clap:

Apart from Mick of course, lol.

I have a door spat for said side :pirate2:

Jay-ZS+ 17-09-10 08:08 AM

If the green one is known by other members Id always favour that one as chances are its been well looked after. The lack of service wouldnt worry me as long as you look over it.

They could have been the original wheels. When I bought my mk2 it had the kit and straights fitted. I've heard a lot of people call them mk 1 wheels but they were available as an optional extra all the way through the range.

I've also heard that when MGR started to go under they just put whatever they had lying around on the cars.

stamford 17-09-10 09:10 AM

Mk1 wheels on a mk2 with the 180 bodykit is visually wrong as the mk2 alloys were dimensionally different in width in order to fill the arch extensions. But I guess there were other wheel options if you did not have the 180 bodykit fitted.

gsinclairzs 17-09-10 09:27 AM

I agree mate. They did sit too far into the arches. All I'm saying is that 11 spoke weren't always fitted with the kit, although usually that was the case.
