bought mk2 but failed its mot ragin!

got it today, drove it down to the mot centre, guys from farmers in falkirk, were absolute cocks, didnt look interested, waited an hour and a half to get told she failed miserably, few things like back brakes, exhaust blowing, leak in engine bay, petrol i think, power steering fluid, srs light on,baw bags the lot of them, had an advisory saying something was on the screen in drivers view, although just drove 40 odd mile, with my daughter in the back seat

Dan1971 29-06-13 06:23 AM

Ouch ....

What you bought then ... ?

Mark S 29-06-13 08:17 AM

if it is leaking fuel (petrol?) and power steering fluid in the engine bay as well as the back brakes being in bad order, then it sounds like they were right to fail it?

stamford 29-06-13 08:20 AM

Was it bought with little or no MOT then? Hope the price reflected this.

Ritchy 29-06-13 09:40 AM

Unfortunatly the days of letting things go through on mots is over, can risk losing your mot station and licence,, id be looking towards the seller tbh

ZS 29-06-13 09:57 AM

I've seen some garages fail a car for nothing at all and make up reasons just to fail it (one garage local to me failed my Landrover as it was "pissing coolant all over the place and had to abandon the mot" drove it round the corner to another mot station who passed it first time, there was infact no leak from the coolant at all and the first garage just wanted free money for "repairs".

peterzs 29-06-13 10:06 AM

Oh no sir HGF

andys1981 29-06-13 11:00 AM

it was bought with no tax/mot,only had an advisory for the back breaks last year,so took a gamble, need a car as my zr got written off, last owners were fine,im not blaming them, they were great, the garage were useless,it took three of them nearly 3 hours to do a timing belt on a megane, all there good at is changing tyres lol,was dissapointed with the result, but theres stuff im going to go fix right now at my work, will have a good look and let you guys no later

POMPSKI 29-06-13 11:06 AM

Good luck...

Maxfly 29-06-13 02:55 PM

Not good Andy but not too bad a fail list, looks to be all easy enough fixes I think. Fuel leak could be pretty easy, prob a joint or that daft wee seal on fuel rail. Best of luck getting it on the road bud!!

andys1981 29-06-13 04:57 PM

have spent a few hours at work, couldent find this leak, but what i did notice was water dripping from a pipe coming out the bulkhead so think thats what the leak was,no steering fluid leaking, just need flexi part on exhaust done, and back breaks and pads, and a front gator, then she should be good, had a look under the seats, the plugs are fine, noticed there are 1 plug each side, white and black wires with a trace thru them, what are they for heated seats?srs light going out as it should,so im happy with todays progress.

petet16 29-06-13 05:24 PM

The pipe from the bulkhead is the evaporator drain

grimmy 29-06-13 05:25 PM

Coreys old motor then Andy?

andys1981 29-06-13 06:09 PM

Dan1971 02-07-13 09:17 PM

Are you sure the flexi was a fail ... ?

Mine was an advisory last year. It was just a bit loose .... nothing blowing mind you.

andys1981 03-07-13 10:32 AM

yeah the flexi was blowing dan so got it replaced, still waiting for it to be dropped off, need this done as i still need to tax it aswell

andys1981 03-07-13 10:49 PM

well today has went great, the guy that done flexi, ive knew him for about 17 years, took it to farmers to get it moted for me,on my way to work phoned him stating that tax needed done aswell,i was on my way to pay him,he told me to leave money for tax aswell,as long as all documents etc were there he would tax it for me,so went up at 5.30 today and all legal, well chuffed

grimmy 04-07-13 06:10 AM
