Coolant Issues And Engine Light Coming On

from above my car seems to be drinking coolant on a start up its a 120 K-Series i've have not found any creamy oil under the oil cap or in the dipstick area and and wandering what could cause this

RudeDogg1 24-02-10 09:50 PM

cold be you thermostat is foobered

Simon's ZS-120 24-02-10 10:15 PM

i got told it could be the coolant cap on its way off and not holding preasure

RudeDogg1 24-02-10 10:23 PM

could b that to had that happewn on me mums old r25

Simon's ZS-120 24-02-10 10:28 PM

think im going to start with cap first see what happens

Steves Cleenz 24-02-10 10:33 PM

could also be inlet manifold gasket, water pump gasket leaking

checked that area and put cardboard under the car not a single drip

Steves Cleenz 24-02-10 10:36 PM

but it will only leak when under pressure, and if it inlet manifold it can go straight into the inlet so you wouldnt see any leaks

hmmm im fucked then for now i do knotice my exsaust smokes alot more when cold and it sounds like a **** from a cold start like its not runnig to well but when it warms up its fine

Steves Cleenz 24-02-10 10:43 PM

does sound like inlet gasket then

Ritchy 24-02-10 10:53 PM

as has been said just because there is no oil coolant mix doesnt mean the head is defo okay coolant can go straight into the cylinder n get burned, but as long as it aint overheated it should be fine, id be looking for leaks first if your losing stuff

This is what happened to my sons Zr no obvious signs of a leak then it finally popped water was going straight to the bores and it was like a steam train for about 5 mins

Mine was losing a little bit of coolant over a long period of time, no mayo, no overheating, no signs of a leak and the heaters worked fine. Then a coil pack failed and a couple of days later the HG went!
