The car is dead....

Well the verdict is out. No 4 piston is buggered and there is no compression in any of the front bank of 3 cylinders.

So i need help. I'm after either a complete secondhand engine or a bottom end from the head gasket down. If anyone can help then i would be most pleased.

Don't really want to have to sell the car but if i can't find an engine thats not gonna pull my pants down over the price then i'll have to.:cry:

HEEEEELLLLLLLLLPPPPPPP............................ .....................

Bobdope2002 30-03-09 12:53 PM

RSM all the way

ive read another of your posts but imo its your only option unless you know of another breaker

arwilson80 30-03-09 12:54 PM

There was one on eBay that ended just the other night... and i don't think it sold. Thing is - i deleted the link from watched items this morning.

stamford 30-03-09 12:59 PM

pm R1CSO as he obtained one for his 180 when it became waterlogged. Not sure on what he paid though, what figure do you have in your head Murray?

Sorry to hear that, but it wasn't looking too good from what you said.

peterzs 30-03-09 01:12 PM

Sorry its dead, but I'm sure that you can source an engine, wouldnt be the same not having to look in the mirrors to get out of your way.:wavecry::wavecry::wavecry:

Or can you do anything with a ZT engine ?

'tis the same price BIN as the one i had a link to... If it is he might take a little less seeing it never sold first time around.

Dave ZS-X 30-03-09 02:39 PM

roverbreakers have them in all the time or if you want a good one then Reyland has a brand new one in stock , zero miles.

afcbadam 30-03-09 03:50 PM

will a freelander engine fit. if not the rover 75 2.5v6 sells for next to nothing. a friend of the family brought a mint v reg one for £500 from ebay

Murray203ps 30-03-09 03:59 PM

Cheers for all the help guys. Will try and follow up a couple of leads straight away.

A figure of about 500 quid for a secondhand engine Mick. Just a pain as am going to have swap cams over now but i suppose thats the least of my worries. Wish i had more time on my hands as i'd have a bash at changing it myself.

arwilson80 30-03-09 04:02 PM

Theres one ending in 1 day 5 hours on the bay... 1st result for a search on my phone for 'KV6 engine' price was extremely low, but worth a look i guess.

Will keep an eye on that. Just rung roverbreakers and he can supply and deliver for 690 quid which isn't too bad. Engines are about 35.000 miles.

Does that sound reasonable.

Phate 30-03-09 04:18 PM

No idea if its reasonable, but my question is any idea what caused this dude?

Too much NOS?

I don't think so phate. The nos was set up properly i.e fuel and nitrous mix and was only set at 25-30 bhp as i got the guy to lower the power last time i had it rolling roaded.

I still think that the timing was out and that has damaged the piston in no4 cylinder and bent a couple of valves elswhere resulting with no compression but i'm no expert.

Just had a look but doesn't seem that reliable hence no one bidding. It's done nearly 70,000 miles and he reckons hes looked at big ends to see if they are ok and stuff.

Give it a wide birth i think but thanks anyway.

Will a T series turbo drop straight in and how much can you get them for. Do they attach to the pg1 gearbox.

Dave ZS-X 30-03-09 06:25 PM

yes quite easy fit apparently, cheap engine to buy and fits straight to pg1 gearbox too.

wullie-zs180 30-03-09 06:25 PM

T series will more or less go straight in, you will need the wiring loom from a 420, and An ECu, Then you will need to think about the radiator and intercooler but its not too much work, I think they will go straight on the PG1 box

Yeah, sounds like too much time and work to sort it out. I wouldn't mind if i only lived a couple of miles from work and had time in the evenings to tinker but i need the car to be able to travel back and forth to kent from dorset to see my partner.:(

I would love to do a turbo conversion tbh. Miss my turbos.

If thats the case bud then your quickest option will be a replacement kv6 lump,

Supercharged_Z 30-03-09 08:18 PM

500-700 quid for a average mile engine,40-70k.

do the belts while doing the cams.

wonder what caused it to fail so bad

shroonie29 30-03-09 08:23 PM

I thought the problem with the KV6 and tuning above 200bhp was the fuelling..........I am sure RSM have pointed to this before........have been told the only sure fire way of getting around the fuelling issues with a 'sorted' KV6 is a standalone ECU.

Might be worth a call to G or a chat with Ross even if you are going to get the car fixed elsewhere?

Best of luck on getting your car fixed though dude........having been there, done that and got the t shirt with The Red Devils engine I know how gutted you must feel.

only so much the std ecu will do, however nitrous shouldnt really make to much of a difference as it dosnt need loads more fuel obviously!!!.

but the way it failed sounds weird.. but i do remember Murray saying he was upping the nos due to not making the power and that rung alarm bells back then, even with a reduced shot it wasnt doing what it should imo.

Yeah was going to but didn't bother in the end. Even got him to lower the power as it was making the clutch slip badly. Last time it went on the rollers it was 225 with the nitrous on. I really don't believe it was the gas that knackerd it but you never know.

Murray203ps 02-04-09 04:17 PM

Got a 53 plate engine on the waiting list and just want to know if it's going to be ok in a mark 2 car. Is there any differences or will everything bolt onto it ok.

Steves Cleenz 02-04-09 05:26 PM

everything is the same, the only engine that is different is from a zt as these have a different fuel rail thats all
