Ritchy 08-12-13 07:43 PM

Any more info to help it sell? Did you ever get the oil leak sorted?

Stev180 08-12-13 09:19 PM

Not everyone knows your car some info would help.

daytona365 09-12-13 06:29 AM

If I had a spare garage, id have it as a spare...lol

scotttait 09-12-13 08:48 AM

Any pics and info?

talkingcars 09-12-13 07:37 PM

No recent pictures as she needs a wash but watch this space.......

Basic details
MOT due at the end of the month.
Tax due at the end of January
Mileage is 119k
Not used her since May but stuck a battery in tonight and she started first turn of the key
I plan to use her for a few days and chuck her in for an MOT.
Commission no. 651 - Dec 12th, 2001.

Good bits
Rover 45 headlights in good condition.
Philips Blue Lighter headlight and full beam.
LED side light and number plate bulbs.
Genuine Citron mist jet washers.
Aero wipers (6 months old).
Sheddist.
Bumper relocated in boot.
Wired for steering wheel remote although standard wheel currently fitted.
MGF interior mirror.
Rover 800 central doom light.
Half leather seats with grey inserts.
Electric windows front and rear - rears are not easy on an early mk1.
Brakes are either brand new 2 years ago (rear) or recon (front) last year and fitted with EBC yellow stuff pads.

Bad bits
Oil leak - bit like a 1960's British motorbike, leaves a couple of drops.
(Garage wanted to change all the gaskets but I suspect it's the oil cooler.)
3 of the door handles are failing - I have sourced some new ones but they need painting - paint included.
Engine cover missing (I need to find it in the garage).
Resonator box not fitted (it is in the boot).
Duplex exhaust removed so there is an empty cut out in the bumper, shield still in place (unless buyer wants to pay £400 for the exhaust).

I have owned her for nearly 6 years and she still makes me smile when I see her.
The only reason I am selling is that I can't justify or afford two ZS saloons as well as my wifes little used ZR, as well as the MGF as well as the T16 maestro.

stamford 09-12-13 07:43 PM

James I think your ad needs a little spell checking :D Bumper relocated to boot and a central doom light, interesting!

Shouldn't this be in the bad bits?

talkingcars 09-12-13 07:51 PM

Show's you are reading it - LOL

Yes, it is the BATTERY in the boot and a DOME light.

Couple of other bits.

No audio fitted but there are some speakers in a box in the boot that came with my mk2 - focal IIRC.

I replaced the spark plugs and HT leads about 3000 miles ago.

Cheers Jay - it has been up for sale since May when I bought FE54 but I've decided I really to get a few things sorted - cars being one of them.

talkingcars 10-12-13 06:21 PM

That didn't go so well, I was hoping the battery would be ok after a recondition although it is 4 years old but it didn't hold charge overnight so there will be a recent battery on there as well.

talkingcars 15-12-13 05:56 PM

Bump - not changed the battery yet but just wanted to bump.

This would be a good base for a T16 conversion or did I already say that.

talkingcars 04-01-14 09:18 PM

MOT booked for Monday - offers invited.

talkingcars 05-01-14 05:11 PM

Gave her a quick wash today

open to offers.............

talkingcars 06-01-14 05:53 PM

Took the car in for the MOT today, what they tested was fine but they refused to do a full test due to the oil leak.

However she still drives really nicely, better than my mk2 at 30k and 3 years younger!

I will not be getting the oil leak sorted, I will not be getting the MOT done, the car will be sorned at the end of the month and scrapped shortly after, I will not be stripping bits to sell so if you want a good car that needs a bit of work

MAKE ME AN OFFER.

petet16 06-01-14 06:09 PM

Slightly ot, but I had a MoT terminated early when the oil filler cap sprung a leak.

daytona365 06-01-14 07:39 PM

Dont type the S word to loud, my car got very upset knowing another TY may go to the graveyard in the sky.

Ritchy 06-01-14 07:46 PM

Stick it on ebay see what it sells for? Spares repairs:)

It is a shame as James has looked after it well, but sadly for most of them they just get to long in the tooth to keep them going.the only saving grace is the old ones can keep a few going a bit longer.

Leaves loads of room in the engine bay for a decent induction setup.

My ZS not long in the tooth. Plus my ex 214SEi was still perfect after 16years...
Lots of love is all they need.

Unless he gets bashed into, Zedmund will be going after I retire...

The Love I'd need to give GV51 would pay for your continental road trip twice over. If I had the space, time and energy it'd be different.

talkingcars 26-01-14 09:37 AM

Underneath her yesterday removing the decat, oil seems to be coming from one of the hoses between the filter and the cooler, would have been an easy fix for someone - never mind, I'm making more from the parts than I'd taken for the complete car.

petet16 26-01-14 09:52 AM

The hoses are a weak link in the system, I think it was a hose letting go that killed Smokey's first track zs.

talkingcars 26-01-14 02:15 PM

I was hoping that MJS would find this and replace them but he was concerned about the possible contamination of the cam belt and felt that should be changed and to be fair it was almost due. The car wasn't worth the money spending on it but would have been worth doing DIY.

Car is still a runner if anyone wants a cheap project.
