That's bright! Is it the same shade? Does brighten the engine bay up.

afcbadam 05-02-09 08:14 PM

the camera is making it look a lot brighter than it is. yea its solar red. i used 2 coats of primer, 5 red coats and 3 laquer coats. its a very close match to the colour of the car. i was tempeted with silver but opted for red for now.

TjP 05-02-09 08:57 PM

Ive been wanting to do this with mine, in silver.

Looks pretty good :) Is the V6 badge going back on? That should finish it off nicely!

afcbadam 05-02-09 10:10 PM

i damaged the badge when i took it off. i will try to find another

Ricks180 06-02-09 05:47 AM

Looking good did you have to rub the cover down before spraying?

Alan.F 06-02-09 06:20 AM

I want to do this with my 180, my battery tray is rusty so i have bought a brand new battery tray from e-bay so painting that TB and will have plenty left to do the engine cover

p_b82 06-02-09 08:45 AM

I took my engine cover off... the tractor is noisy enough as is, and wanted to help get the heat away.

But that does look very nice :)

no didnt need to rub it down. the rough finish is a good finish to start with. it gives the paint something to stick to

grimmy 06-02-09 04:50 PM

Does this need to be temerature resistant paint i fancy doing mine xpg

K&S Coachworks 06-02-09 06:29 PM

several ways of doing this job tbh.

Bobdope2002 06-02-09 07:35 PM

I was tempted to spray mine up in a nice shiny black for free of course but decided against im waiting for a certain person to make up some carbon fibre ones

no. the cover doesnt get hot. there is a load of heat resistant material on the bottom cover. mine has been on for about 300 miles now and there is no damage from heat

arwilson80 08-02-09 07:51 PM

Nice, but bright. Very bright IMO. :) Mine came colour-coded from the factory... ;)

That's black. :)

I thought that was the case just wanted to make sure before i had a go

MGPete 11-02-09 12:47 PM

The cover does get hot.

What laquer did you use mate?
Did the same to mine, but after 'bout a year the laquer disappeared.
Only have the paint now.

In summer I will re-do the cover and put heat-resistant laquer on.

afcbadam 11-02-09 04:12 PM

yours is a k series so yes it does get hot. yours will as its sitting on metal but the kv6 doesnt get hot atall. you can thrash it for miles and when you touch it its still cold

stevelou5 22-03-09 06:10 PM

I have painted my cover too, but just used normal car paint and normal laqure, drove about 50 miles, my cover does get a bit hot. hope the paint will be ok like as its not heat resistant

Phate 23-03-09 10:23 PM

I want to paint mine. What's the procedure? Just primer, paint, then laquer?

Yeah thats all I did, grey halfords primer, then used some blue paint I had off my VTS, then used clear laqure, didn't take me too long to do as it dried quite quick (when it was sunny)

:trampoline:

TjP 24-03-09 02:00 PM

I didnt use any primer, just some hammerite silver and some lacquer. No bubbling so far! Been a week or two since I did it.
