conversion
i am converting a mg zs 160 into a 2 turbo i am using the engine out ov a rover 620 turbo, and have come across some problems i cant gt the sub frame to fit and need help...
wt can i do?????::huh: |
ZS 160 ? was it a previous convertion before you got it.
|
ZS 160?? do you mean ZR 160? or ZS 110,120,180? The ZS doesnt use a subframe as far as fitting the T series you need the Cambelt side engine mount, Gearbox side engine mount
Bottom (sump mounted) steady bar from a 420. Although not 100% as never done or had one. Sure Pete T16 who has a ZS turbo will be better qualified to comment :) |
sorry my bad a ment to put zs 1.6 lol, no its nt a pervious converion, currently puting a tomcat turbo in, but reli need some advise on mounting?????
|
the gearbox mount offff the rover 620 does not match the holes on the zs wt cn i do abwt tht?????
|
You need the ones off a 420 for a ZS :)
|
ok,, cz the back subframe doesnt fit offf the 620 and there isnt a subframe on the front ov my zs for some strange reason, soooo what cnn i do abwt tht????
|
Yer the ZS uses a subframe for the suspension arms and steering rack but the engine hangs off the body, You will need the running gear from a 420 bubble (95-99) for the mounts and believe the loom from the 420 is alot closer to that of the 620.
|
like the gearlinkages n tht??????????????
|
do u think u cud give me a list ovvv all the stufff i will need offf the 420,
|
As far as Im aware the bits you want off a 420 are:
Cambelt side engine mount Gearbox side engine mount Bottom (sump mounted) steady bar Gear linkage Coolant pipes PAS system/pipes Driveshafts Throttle cable Clutch slave cylinder & bracket Although im not 100% sure someone who has done one would be able to tell you for sure, both Dan (carmadbaker) and Pete T16 have got the 2lt turbos installed so would be able to say for definate |
You don't need the subframe off the 620.
You won't have a front subframe on the zs, because the front suspension is different, and doesn't need a front subframe. You'll need the cambelt, and gearbox engine mount from a post 96 bubble 420, and possibly the gear linkage as well, if your 1.6 is a PG1 gearbox the existing linkage should fit. I can't help much with the electrical bit of the conversion cos Ade at AA autosport worked all that out. |
Ah nice one Jay, things like coolant pipes that you need will depend which way you decide to go with radiators, and i/c
|
I've just re-read some of your earlier posts where you say you have a Tomcat turbo engine, does it have a tin, or alloy sump, because you need the alloy sump to fit the lower engine steady.

t16
get your self an early 220 /420 engine loom / ecu and then as me an a mate did this conversion to his 1.6 zs mk2 last year it was just a case of taping into 6 wires on the zs loom to get it to get it all to work just cant remember which 6 and he has now sold it or i could have check for you are you using a 620 lump cos if so dont run it above 12psi of boost or the engine will blow the early 220 /420 lumps have stronger pistons and can take 18psi if you get the fueling right

ime Mahles are just as fragile as the later AE pistons |
t16
i kno the Mahles piston arent as good as forge but when i was 22 i had a 220 gti which i converted to a turbo running 18psi with a T28 turbo with out any issue cos i had the fueling set up cos when i was 1st ran on the rollers it was under fueling around 13.5psi once the fuel pressure and and fueling was set up it ran sweet and never gave me or my mate who had it off me any issue for over 3half years and it took a lot of sh1t over that time and still ran fine when he sold it where AE pistons 12psi is max really you wouldnt wanna go above 10psi to be safe
|
Well. fair play to you, standard boost is 11.7 psi, so all standard pistons are safe to that point at least:smile1:
|
The 620ti is a different car to a tomcat and the T16 engines are different in a few ways.
Also the loom colours are different on the different T16's. You also need to know if you are wasted or not before you start messing with wiring it. |
wiring

Incorrect. They over boost to 11.7 then drop back to 8-9 psi. This is due to the boost solenoid. G |
wud anyone be willing to do the wiring for a mg zs useing the 620 turbo loom???????
thanks |
