Mg6 se 1.8t yes or no??????

It's been awhile since my last MG! what's your thoughts on the MG6? Good and bad points etc
And hello everyone:bow:

Dan1971 21-04-16 09:04 PM

Mixed views I think - speak to Smokey though - he's got one !

I had a SE for a weekend on test. Not impressed to be honest. I did do a thread.

Smokey 21-04-16 09:10 PM

I loved mine when I got it, almost a year on and I still love it. Don't get me wrong, It's not got the exciting feel of power the 180's have but it's competent and I have the TSE so plenty of toys.
Haven't had many niggles with it either so far and did the 1000+ miles to Brands the other week flawlessly.

Cheers Dan, I have a test drive tomorrow. I think it depends what your spending. And i wouldn't buy new.

The one i'm looking is the SE 1.8T Full electrics, Sat nav, parking sensors, etc
I'm not looking for fast:no: I'm getting to old for that lol

EDIT your first mg is in my signature photo.

Smokey 21-04-16 09:35 PM

That must be Jim's yellow hatch on the other side then! I still have the photos from that day at Knockhill.

The 6 is a very respectable car. I usually get 'MG still make cars?' or 'I thought that was a beemer' so it's never had negative comments lol.

It's comfortable too and I have the magnette so good boot space just a small opening. It will look racier soon though when the warranty expires!

Mark S 21-04-16 09:37 PM

with the 6 diesel trading at a smidge over 7k on a 64 plate and the 1.8t at 3.5k on 61 plates, you'd be a fool not to consider these as a cracking used buy.
As a new buy you would have to be a fool to suffer the heavy depreciation and lack lustre performance.
But lb/££ used, you are hard pushed to find better deals

Smokey 21-04-16 09:49 PM

I'd agree Mark. I know I love MG as a brand, I wouldn't have bought the 6 without careful consideration and comparison. Value for money is important and I feel I got that.
Mine was £7k for and '11 plate Magnette TSE with 39k miles on it. Came with 1 year warranty. That's the 1.8T petrol. And that was almost a year ago so probably £6k these days.

Smokey 21-04-16 09:49 PM

Plus the remap that should be coming this year will hopefully see it at 195bhp

Skillen 21-04-16 10:33 PM

With all the stuff already there for higher powered turbo k's it'll be a doddle for tuning and building too!

Z Scotland 22-04-16 01:13 AM

Did they do anything with the cylinder head on the 6? It was one of the reasons I went for v6 and diesel in the zs.

Yes that's Jim's hatch! but the pics from Ingliston. Easy mistake we did a few that year. lol

I'm not very familiar with the models yet, Is magnette saloon? Im looking at the hatch model. It's a lot of car for the money in my opinion.

Dan1971 22-04-16 07:45 AM

Magnette is the saloon - GT is the hatch.

I had a hatch and from a practicality point of view although it may be better than the saloon slightly, the lip to load is high.

Think the saloon's a better looker to be honest but value for money wise - as said - not a lot out there better for the money.

Well the test drive went ok just some minor issues, A new tyre was fitted to the front but not balanced and kerbing to both front alloys. So they have agreed to refurb and balance both alloys then track the steering. Also 1yr mot 1 yr parts & labour warranty and 6 mth tax.

Hello stranger !

I think it's a good move. I love blairs, it's a lovely car to drive.

I will shortly be getting a ZT 1.8T. Can't wait !

Z Scotland 22-04-16 09:11 PM

Hi Stephen
Yes I think so! at the money it's a steal.

Smokey 22-04-16 09:47 PM

They did fix the head gasket issues of the k series engine and renamed it the n series.

The upgrading isn't simple though as they ecu is locked down tight and had taken years to try and overcome. They are almost there but have had plenty off issues and considered forgetting it.

Glad they didn't!

Good low mileage on that one though. For that age money though, is there not a TSE? I went to Peterborough for mine as they are cheaper down south.

It has everything I need then some! And was on my door step. The mondeo sat next to it same year, colour, more miles, 4 thousand more.

Smokey 25-04-16 08:31 AM

Sounds like a happy owner then! To be fair, I also specifically wanted a Magnette hence the travel down south. Was worth it though, they are good cars and even better at the price.

Z Scotland 28-04-16 06:07 PM

Here's a good one! My insurers (AXA won't cover the MG6, Said it's too high a risk.
Hmmm I have 17yrs no claims. WTF

caled 28-04-16 09:09 PM

Time for a better insurance company...

Smokey 29-04-16 10:08 PM

Agreed. Hi risk in what regard?! That's ridiculous. My insurance didn't really change over the ZS, roughly £300 for the year. But it's a newer car than a ZS and supplied in the UK so isn't an import. Ditch them!
