Trophy blue MG ZS180

Hello all, I'm back in a MG......ZS180 this time. :D

78000 miles with very comprehensive service history. Getting new tyres Saturday, then the big expensive job of cambelts, brake fluid, oil and filter change. It's a mint car and a great drive, couple of things to sort out but it only cost £1k so I'm happy. Anyone know the best place near Darlington to get the Cambelt done? Cheers. Jamie. :)

Already fitted my Pioneer DEH-X5600BT head unit, as didn't like the JVC that was fitted. Just need to sort the mass of cables behind the glove box that are for the JVC.

Cheers, it really is......little bit of rust by the tailgate hinges, and near the front skirt under the car. My mate who's a panel beater, welder and painter came with me to pick it up. He said he'll sort it out. :)

jc600 20-05-15 06:14 AM

Better pic.......going to get a new roof arial today, as the one fitted looks daft lol. Changed the interior light bulbs to smd bulbs. No pics yet though. Also found some replacement badge inserts and chequered flag badges in the garage. Ordered a new ZS 180 badge. And centre cap badges off Locking Vinyl. Booked in for cambelts, oil & filter change, brake fluid change on 1st of June at a MGR xpart specialist. :)

Cheers, it's the little things that make a big difference. :)

jc600 21-05-15 06:56 PM

Daft aerial replaced, used a Freelander 1 aerial base. Plenty of silicone, so touch wood I don't get any leaks. :)

Took the car to get the tyres done.....get asked to look at discs (knew they needed doing, was going to order some and do it myself). And the insides were goosed, rear drivers side caliper seized in. So all new padgid discs and pads, a new caliper. And a lot lighter wallet. But got a long drive tomorrow so worth getting it done now. But been here ages, and bored lol. :)

jc600 23-05-15 01:49 PM

New boots fitted, Falken Ziex ZE914's. :)

Coming on really nicely.

jc600 23-05-15 04:12 PM

Cheers, just don't like doing things I haven't planned to do straight away. But that's car ownership for you lol.......plus it's always best if you can stop the car. :D

Dan1971 23-05-15 04:14 PM

Those wheels look brand new ...

jc600 23-05-15 04:23 PM

Got every receipt for the car, wheels were refurbed in 2012. One has a small chip in the paint, and some have small corrosion in the spokes. But a good clean and a coat of wax, they come up really well. Waxing them helps prevent brake dust sticking. Rarely use wheel cleaner as it's too corrosive. :)

jc600 24-05-15 01:09 PM

Ive got to say, I love driving my ZS.......I didn't buy it for economical purposes, I brought it for the fun! Which it definitely is.

Just driven 292 miles, 20 miles b roads and the rest motorway/A roads. It was so comfy and smooth, handled really well on the back road parts. And as a bonus, I've still got 1/4 tank of fuel left! That's driving at 70mph max ;)

jc600 27-05-15 03:02 PM

Just got back from 4 days away, ZS was a pleasure to drive. And my new centre cap badges were here waiting for me. Thanks to Daz @ Locking Vinyl. :D

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/a...pstbzghlio.jpg

Will get them fitted tomorrow after washing the car. :)

jc600 28-05-15 09:32 AM

Centre caps fitted, also washed the car after 800 miles of flies, road grime, bird poo's etc. Wash going to wax it, but it's started raining!

Badges fitted to caps.

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/a...psbo9dosg5.jpg

On car, well happy with them. :D

jc600 30-05-15 12:25 PM

Busy morning.

First I took this off, fitted by previous owner. Ripspeed special.

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/a...psssthx0aq.jpg

Was left with this.

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps2gkcvlph.jpg

Painted the back box satin black. And fitted a sleeve.

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/a...psgmaqlvmm.jpg

Also my cup holder arrived.

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/a...psyjbcxsfu.jpg

Also gave the the car another coat of wax and treated the leather on the seats.

:D

jc600 01-06-15 03:55 PM

The ZS is away getting the cambelts, tensioners, water pump, idler pulleys changed with new coolant. Also fitting the rear caliper, oil, filter I supplied. And brake fluid change. :)

I'd be interested to see how you find the Falken ZE 914's though, they are the worst tyre I have ever used.

Cheers mate, I've used the Falken 914's before on my old EP3 Type R and quite liked them. That's why i got them for the ZS. Already done 800 miles on them, on motorway, and tight twisty B roads. Found them really grippy in wet and dry. Low road noise, and just the right amount of flex in the side walls. They are the XL tyres. Thing is, we all drive differently so could be down to that. What didn't you like about them? :)

They were good to start with, then they just lost all grip. despite doing only a few thousand on them. What attracted me to them was the wet grip rating, which as I said was excellent to start with. Taking a sweeping left hand bend the front would just wash out! I lost confidence in them in the end.

I don't do a lot of mileage a year (I know I've done 800mile but was a trip away), so hopefully I'll get use before they go off. :)

theboynoz 01-06-15 08:43 PM

Ill second the wet weather problem, they are great in the dry but do wear quickly whether spirited driving or on the family wagon! But I just drove carefully in the wet and all was well....

Gotta say, that colour in the MK1, all polished up, looks very smart! Loved cleaning, clay barring and polishing the hell outta my TB MK1, always scrub up well. Interesting tip for the wheels too, always wondered why my mint pug 106 raptors kept they're shine etc, didn't even think about the fact I polished them till now, will do that when I refurb the 11's!! Keep up the good work!

jc600 01-06-15 10:10 PM

Cheers mate......I'll see how they go, if they go off.....I'll try a different tyre. But they were fine on the Ep3, even after a few thousand miles. Maybe they don't go well with the heavy V6.

Yeah, gotta say it's a colour that comes up really well.......polishing and waxing the wheels is something I've always done, after all it is paint. :)

BRMFUN 02-06-15 03:25 AM

Mk1 in Trophy Blue really looks good!!

jc600 02-06-15 06:12 AM

Cheers mate. :D

jc600 02-06-15 07:14 PM

Well it's back......New cambelts, tensioners, pulleys, water pump, coolant flushed, replaced and tested, brake fluid replaced, oil and filter changed, spark plugs changed (all genuine parts). And they fitted the refurbed caliper I brought. And gave it a check over. :)

Seems to drive alot smoother.

My new silicone HT leads arrived today, so I'll get them fitted after work tomorrow. :)

Would normally do a lot of work on my cars myself. But didn't fancy the Cambelt change lol......and as they gave me a really good price, I thought I might as well. Plus it keeps the full service history in place. :)

jc600 03-06-15 07:20 PM

Fitted new HT leads, also cleaned the throttle body out and sprayed a bit of intake cleaner through. :)

Engine bay needs a good clean.

ZS Phil 03-06-15 10:37 PM

Great to see a ZS getting the love it deserves, these ones are going to be the future classics- not many like this left now unfortunately.
You must be spending a small fortune on it!

jc600 04-06-15 06:19 AM

Thanks mate, thing is I had a budget of £2500 for a car.......and all the cars I looked at were dogs, and tatty. They all needed tyres and brakes. Some were nearly out of Mot. Others needed a respray etc. This was £1000 to buy, with 12 months Mot. Full service history, every receipt, original order form, letters from MG dealership. Option extras of electric sun roof, electric rear windows and rear head rests. On 78k miles.

I knew the Cambelt, brakes and tyres needed doing. And knew the costs involved. So far, including buying the car it owes me about £2550. Which is fine by me. It's a solid car and well worth it. I now have a sweet running, clean, tidy car within my budget.

Always wanted a ZS 180, after my ZR and I'm now a proud owner of one. :D

People may call me mad, but I don't care lol......would rather have this than a rusty banger for the same money I've spent. :D
