I never believed supermarket fuel was different to ordinary petrol station fuel, but dont often get the supermarket fuel.
Other day got a voucher for 5p off a litre of Sainsburys fuel, so went and filled the Punto up. Its a 16v 1.2 Dynamic, always nippy little thing. With the Sainsburys fuel, it felt flat and didnt want to rev, I was wondering if the plugs needed doing as I havnt touched the engine apart from oil and filter changes. Any way filled up where I usually do and all was well again, can only put it down to the Sainsburys fuel!!!! Just wondered if you would get less mpg from the supermarket fill ups. |
Personally I don't think there is any difference Peter, tankers go to the refinery and get filled, they don't have a supermarket crappy fuel point, I've tried running on Shell Vpower and Sainsburys super unleaded, I couldn't tell any difference between them tbh.
|
Agree Pete, thats what I always thought, but it was noticeable in the Punto.
In the derv, I never noticed any difference, but thats got a bit more grunt to it. Must admit though, I dont use the supermarket fuel very often. |
Another possibility is that the ecu readjusts slightly to different fuels, which may be more noticeable on some engines.

328 over 50l tank
Long motorway trip with enthusiastic country A road driving. They do well considering I love driving the tits off them. Had40.44 MPG put of a trip once and that engulfed a thrash on the M6 toll. So it would have had more but for that. |
Fellas - your figures are very hard to believe to be honest. I've had a fair few and have NEVER got any more than 30. Now I don't drive like a granny, but at the same time, most of my journey to and from work is about 80% motorway at 75.
Just done a very steady brim to brim and managed 29. |

Skillen what app is that?

It's called road trip. Can store a lot in it like services and mots etc but haven't bothered to set that up.
|
On a decent run where I'm not fussed about going too quickly mine would do mid 30's only ever once had it go to nearly 40 but I nearly fell asleep as was sooooo boring.
Around town according to the fuelly thing I get between 23/28 as a usual reading and it depends if I've been drivin more or the mrs. Like I say though, on a run it will knock 36 on the app. Still I never will expect it to be great on fuel, especially with the mods added as it just makes you want to hear that V6 growl. |
Oh yeah! Got to add, the 40MPG was before the ITG and the decat!
But even so the mpg hasn't fluctuated all that much. The dip before the 40 mpg was me in a hurry to go 150miles to my mrs's parents house one evening before the 230 mile trip to Norwich from Warrington to see her the next day. |
Guess road trip is an iphone only app as I cant find it on googlenplay :-(

makes the 350 bhp 700nm torque BMW 335D look great tbh. I can pull 640 miles a tank to 60 litres if I am good :) that includes a 30 mile flat out trip to NL at 1...... mph
Incidentally I found 120 mph is actually only 2600 rpm on the autobahn |

And it's a derv. Dervs don't count :P And a far better, more modern fuel efficient engine in every way even for that ridiculous power and torque |

It will do 180mph apparently remapped. (mine is) sadly it would make a ZS looks so slow shame the engine had little to give back in 2001. by 2006 the cars were out powered |
You can have a look on my Fuelly.com dashboard. Switch units to UK for MPG if it's not.
