stamford 06-07-10 09:38 PM

Bloody bargin regardless!

Craig 06-07-10 09:39 PM

Absolute steal! Has it had a front end bump mate?

Ritchy 06-07-10 09:44 PM

yeah mate, notice the 25 lights lol, needs a bonnet cable, sort out the passenger side central locking, ball joint and head gasket possible a head and il sort out all the wee niggles

its taxed and moted too

Ritchy 06-07-10 09:45 PM

it was running...just when i picked it up then it made the unmistakable broken valve noise so dunno what itll need

Craig 06-07-10 09:46 PM

Always a give away, although some zrs were sent our with 25 hlights. Still a total bargain and a nice wee project

Thats such a nightmare to hear, you just know the heads goosed lol

Ritchy 06-07-10 09:50 PM

sure theres one at work, n stuarty said i can raid his garden too cuz we swapped his 25's engine for a 1.8, not too bothered tbh, new engine will be about 100 out meekans anywhoo worst case scenario

not sure whats happening to it yet, either gonna keep it, sell it to ma burds mu for prety much what it costs, or i could easy get a grand for it

BUCKYDEVIL 06-07-10 09:51 PM

Nice wee project mate.

Stevedx 07-07-10 08:25 AM

lucky man! wish I had that luck!

grimmy 07-07-10 09:10 AM

Looks no bad ritchy do you not fancy stripping it for track days and punt the extra bits.

Maxfly 07-07-10 10:14 AM

top notch buy there Ritchy. once sorted it'll be a wee belter:D

Nor 07-07-10 11:25 AM

Good wee project.

nath86 07-07-10 12:27 PM

Thats a steal, id keep it a while and get some use out of it, cheap tax ins if you keep it a 1.4 ;)

Nor 07-07-10 12:50 PM

They your boats Ritch?

Ritchy 07-07-10 02:14 PM

ma dads boats nor

well stripped down, no snapped valve but the piston was full of water so think thats how it stopped cranking over, can see where the gaskets failed at number one,

so plan at present is...
get the head tested and skimmed tomorrow, buy a uprated gasket set and ladder, new radiator, new timing belt kit, alt and pas belts think il get another inlet manifold as this ones painted..., bonnet latch cable, strip front bumper off check front end repair is up to scratch, doesnt look like its had a front panel though and get a new driver seat, treat some bits of paint and should be good:D

Ritchy 07-07-10 05:39 PM

well heres what it looks like after 3 hours work

http://i969.photobucket.com/albums/a...7072010644.jpg

http://i969.photobucket.com/albums/a...7072010646.jpg

then i took the front of to see what the accident damage was, it looks like its had a light front end bump, breaking the crash bar, theyve just left it off but im going to get one at the weekend, the slam panel is the original and is all still intact, but im going to give it a coat of matt black to help protect it all:) see if i can get some zr headlights too

http://i969.photobucket.com/albums/a...7072010645.jpg

Ritchy 10-07-10 10:06 AM

just won a full red leather brm interior for it:) should look good

leezs110 11-07-10 10:09 AM

Nice project you got there Ritchy, thats a bloody bargain even if the engine is a little sick! ;)

This takes me back to when i had my ZR160, wish i had space for another one at home but new alloys are on the cards for my mk2 so can`t be too greedy! :D

Ritchy 11-07-10 10:25 PM

did a wee bit more work this evening, took all the valves out and lapped all the inlet valves in, but the wee suction cup on the lapping stick av got at home isnt sticking to the exhaust valves so gonna need me work one
http://i969.photobucket.com/albums/a...1072010648.jpg
valvesss

Looks like another great rebuild, all to a high standard. Hope it all goes well.

Looked at mini prices, as the grandson will be able to drive in a year or two. Idea was to get one that needed a bit of work. Prices are eye watering, ?750 for one thats OK for restoration!! Most likely rusted out rear subframe. MOT'd ones going for ?1500, ?2000, said a 1.4 ZR would be cheaper, or a ZS come to that.

Suppose its the insurance that pushes the mini prices up, scrapped one of the daughters mini, too much rust in the boot. Last seen being lifted up in the sky by a crane in the scrappies that had hold of the boot and was shaking it like a dog with a bone.

Poor mini, not a pretty sight.

:-D:-D:-D:-D:-D

Ritchy 11-07-10 11:16 PM

thats the thing with minis unless you pay the money theyre usually rotton, mind you not as bad down dorset compared to up here but still probably better to spend the extra with a good bodywork, knackered engine wouldnt be too bad on one from what i gather theyre pretty easy to swap

peterzs 12-07-10 08:25 AM

Did a couple on my own, undo the subframe, brakes, worse bit exhaust manifold joint and lift the body up, push the subframe out.

Always had to have help getting the driveshafts out, worried I'd damage the casing by giving them a clout.

Ritchy 12-07-10 09:25 PM

did a bit of work with the surface prep tool i bought this eveningm shame nobody will ever see it all once its all built up

full brm interiors here now:D including the red carpet, red leather seats, the doorcards with the red leather trim, the leather steering wheel yes red, red gear gaitor and red leather centre console, red leather handbrake with aluminium button and trims and the alloy gear knob, not bad for ?113 eh, got ?20 back already from the passenger seat,
i wasnt sure about the red in the car but it looks lovely, guess because its more of a wine colour, tanya loves it so think plans have changed and shes getting the car now
