I wouldn't worry about not having a trafficmaster clock, the systems being switched off next month.

Are those leather dyes any good for restoring, or re-colouring leather?.

scotttait 01-05-12 09:05 AM

lol oh well ill leave the clock then, im not sure about the dye, chances are colour wont be perfect or ill end up will yellow hands. so would rather find one,

Were any TF ones available in yellow? I'd advocate the change to a TF wheel anyway - mine feels (and looks) quite a bit nicer - or at least I think so! :D
It compliments my red Monaco interior very well - even the stitching matches.
The TF wheel is only about 20mm smaller in diameter, so it doesn't make the steering noticeably heavier.
It also has bulbous bits around the ten-to-two position for your thumbs, so is more ergonomically satisfying too.
The only issues when fitting one of these are that the boss is about 5mm shorter, and the slot in the back of the boss which locates into the indicator cancelling mechanism is 90 degrees out. To get round this I made a little metal collar about 5mm thick, with lugs on that locate into the slots in the back of the steering wheel boss, and slots at 90 degrees that locate in the indicator cancelling mech. It's pretty simple really.
Oh, and the earth wire needed to be moved, but that was dead easy too.

the tf one does look a little neater but dont think they do yellow, i quite like mine if it wasnt worn so bad. and with the rest of the yellow trim it looks very nice. :pimp:

MGF Trophy S/wheel was yellow and black, very hard to find though,

Really?!? Hadn't heard this any more info?

ZS 01-05-12 12:38 PM

You mean this one? http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-QTB102731WAJ

I picked up a couple of R45 sports steering wheels which look exactly like the mgf one with the raised thumb bits, they were brand new mgr stock, I think I paid £25 each for them a few years back, by the time I offset the cost by selling the original zs wheels they cost me about 12 quid each.

petet16 01-05-12 01:01 PM

This one.

As far as I can work out it is not the system which is being switched off, but the deal with MGR has expired so the Trafficmaster clock will no longer pick up data from the roadside transmitters.

Enright 01-05-12 01:20 PM

I've only really found TM to be any good at telling me about the traffic jams that I'm already sitting in anyway, and I've got windows that are just as good for doing that! :D
I like your wheel Pete. The one thing I lost out on with the TF one was the 8 pointed MG badge surround. I tried my old airbag in the TF rim, but it looked a bit clunky. Mind you, having switched to the R45 air vents the theme isn't so important. In fact if anything the gearknob now looks a little out of place, and it's rattle drives me insane, so it isn't long for this world!
Those chrome instrument surrounds are rather nice. Do you have a reasonably priced source for them? I've only seen them on the bay of e at £25+, and I'm not paying THAT much for 'em!

petet16 01-05-12 01:51 PM

I may have a source for more of those wheels.

The chrome rings came from ebay, I'll try and find a link, I don't think I paid that much for them.

Is that wheel smaller than the std one?

I've just been out and measured it at 370mm OD, I think when I compared it to standard it came up slightly smaller.

Are you sure, I was on their website only yesterday and couldn't find anything to that effect.

talkingcars 01-05-12 06:33 PM

I have one of those R45 wheels (complete with the audio and cruise switches), much nicer than the ZS one and easier than a TF one.

Personally I don't like the colour concept interiors, especially the yellow, much prefer the grey my 51 plate came with along with the smokestone alcantara I changed to, I think it is much more grown up.

scotttait 01-05-12 06:56 PM

Do r45 come in yellow?

?

No, nor did they come in monogram.

Apart from the steering wheel, headlights and cruise control I prefer my ZS180 anyday.

Oh I don't plan on going all Lego on it's ass! What I've done so far is quite enough. I'm more interested in comfort and features (like my ATC and your cruise) than anything else. Still doesn't mean I want to grow up though! :D
