Mpg

Just wanted to share my surprising MPG.

went to my sisters wedding, 100 miles away (each way) i stuck £30.00 in the tank. Red light was just showing.

Done the 200 miles got home still with a little over the petrol light.

worked out i managed 43mpg even on lots of country roads. :)

and no i didn't sit at 10mph all the way :) just stuck to national speed limits :)

stamford 06-05-12 08:26 AM

That'll be a 120 then ;)

Not bad at all.

big_wasa 06-05-12 08:57 AM

You did very well to get that out of a 180!! Best i'v done is 35 mpg over 200 miles of motorway at a constant 70mph. General driving around here I get 27.97 mpg worked out using an mpg app!!

talkingcars 06-05-12 10:17 AM

Using http://www.fuelly.com/driver/talkingcars/zs the best I've managed is 30MPG on a long run so 43mpg would be brilliant, sorry to put a dampener on it though, the only really accurate way to measure consumption is brim to brim as the fuel gauge isn't that acurate.

daytona365 06-05-12 06:41 PM

I manage approx 35to 40 when I go up the M1 then A50 to Stoke from Harlow.
I cruise along at 55to 60. The throttle pedal is just so comfy at that angle, so relaxing.
So quiet as well, as he only ticking over at 2500rpm. More time to listen to the stereo!

James Raby 06-05-12 07:53 PM

So sorry to say, that figure CANNOT be correct, there's no way a 2.5 v6 180 can do that mpg!!!

Owned a 180 for 4 years and most I ever got was 389 miles to a tank! Still no where near 43 mpg!

MGR cars are pretty fuel efficent!!!!!!!!! I remember my old Rover 214Sli going from Cardiff back home to Harlow, distance of 186 miles on less than a gallon!!!!

:mbounce:

I'm still gonna stick my neck out and say, I can't see it - calculations must be wrong

Agreed, only way to tell is full tank to light come on then tank up

Blade9274 06-05-12 09:04 PM

Well I calculated it online, £30 fuel, at £144.9 and done 200 miles on it.

I am off to Norfolk in 2 and a bit weeks so will have a completely full tank and let you know the result.

As stated above the light did make an appearance but there have been abit of fuel left.
Let's see what happens in a couple of weeks

James Raby 06-05-12 09:09 PM

I'm 10 mile or 15 mins from Cromer, when you arriving?

Adamzs180 06-05-12 10:03 PM

If i calculated it right thats about 10 miles per litre???
£30.00 / £1.45 = 20.6 litres
20.6 / 200 = 9.7 mile per litre
i think thats the right calculation.
and i think theres 4.? litres per gallon so yeah 40mpg.

I get about 25mpg on day to day
run. but i only pay £1.39 per litre.

welshone 07-05-12 06:22 AM

I use this site after a full tank usage :)

I struggle to reach 25 seem to always get around the 23-24 mark regardless of city or motorway driving and that's with a lightweight fly, which should theoretically increase mpg. Still not complaining its good fun and I get from A to B in good time ;)

So do I... I didn't say I got that very often ;) Average about 20 around town in it, open road and having fun more like 25.

Best party trick though is 22-23 towing the Midget :)

fastmike 07-05-12 09:30 AM

I used to get 32 MPG on a 400 mile round trip....... driven "briskly" out my last 180

Fred68 07-05-12 10:10 AM

They do vary a bit don't they ? My current 180 with 62,000 on it does much the same mpg as my first 180 did which I bought new in 2003.

Fred68 07-05-12 10:18 AM

The hatch back will do a bit better than the saloon as it has a better CD and is a bit lighter if my memory can be trusted? Also the saloon's extreme spoiler causes a lot more drag than hatch's extreme spoiler does. Also the front splitter would add drag but not by a large amount!!

There are 4.55 litres to a British gallon.
There are too many rounding up's in that calculation to make it acurate.
The fuel light may have flashed once but that is not an acurate way to judge how much fuel is in the tank.
The only way to do it is fill every tank to the brim.

Agreed the fuel gauge is a predictive one, I can make the gauge drop over 1/8th within less than a mile. If I ease up it will climb up again doesnt mean Ive gained fuel! ;)
Gauge is only an indication rather than a actual level of fuel in the tank.
