Shopping for Calipers

Hey

I'am looking for two rear calipers for the Zs 180. My garage can source one for 80 quid but I thought I could get them cheaper online.

However am struggling to find a decent website, most of them by the time they add "tax" or a "surcharge" come to over a 100 for one and that tends to be refurbished ones.

Am sure a stumbled on a website with new ones but they wanted something like 230 for one, is this right?

Rugby Rover on ebay were doing good deals for a pair of new rear calipers, don't have a link sorry.

Thanks mate, I just ordered the two for £145 including p&p.

Will let you know if they are delivered alright etc, I'am a bit new to Ebay lol.

Is Rugby Rover on this forum or have you used him before?

petet16 12-08-12 02:12 PM

I've used him a few times, as have some other forum members, a good seller in my experience, I don't usually recommend anyone I haven't used cos there's a few cowboys about.

What size is the discs again on the 180? 239mm?

livewire1888 12-08-12 02:18 PM

Ah I know its 260mm for the rears, f**k! lol. I've ordered the wrong dics and pads I think.

petet16 12-08-12 02:18 PM

I've bought rear calipers from Rugby Rover on ebay, no complaints, would recommend them.

I need help I've ordered rear discs and pads and the discs are 239mm, I just measured mine (with the wheel still on) and i'am sure there 239 but i've read there supposed to be 260?

petet16 12-08-12 02:40 PM

iirc=if I recall correctly.

They should be 260, it's possible someone has fitted the wrong discs in the past, do the pads look as if they are making even contact with the disc.

livewire1888 12-08-12 02:56 PM

oh right mate cheers lol

the pads seem to be wearing in the middle, I took a photo on my phone but i'am not sure how to upload lol.

livewire1888 12-08-12 02:59 PM

I've created an album and uploaded the photos to there, I'am sure you could be right.

petet16 12-08-12 03:08 PM

Something doesn't look right in your disc pic, they should have equal wear across the whole face of the disc, I'll post a pic for comparison.

Researching further on Ebay etc. it says the 180's with Akebono brakes have 239 discs at the rear. :-/
This is causing some confusion lol, I suppose Akebono is a brand cause I posted a question about this the other day and other members say theirs is Lucas etc. What a minefield? lol

petet16 12-08-12 03:24 PM

Akebono is a Japanese manufacturer of brakes, the Jap equivalent of Lucas and Girling.

livewire1888 12-08-12 03:26 PM

Yeah a see what you mean.

Am done with this lol, the garage can sort it out next time. haha

I posted a link to the discs I was looking at on Ebay on the "brakes" thread.

livewire1888 12-08-12 03:28 PM

Would the manufacturer be scribed on the caliper or something?

And thanks a million for all your help Petet16.

petet16 12-08-12 03:47 PM

If you have the 239mm discs then that is the size to order, the caliper carriers are different for the 260mm discs, so if you try to fit 260mm discs they wont fit without using the matching carriers for the bigger disc, on the upside you can use the calipers you've ordered with the smaller disc.

just fitted a set of Rugby rover new 180 calipers. Just about all good :weakbench:

One Banjo bolt was very tight but other than that, should be the last caliper I ever need for my 180.

All painted yellow to match the new fronts from big red.

I have calipers from him on the rear of the ZS and the ZR and all round on the MGF.
