Project - Yellow Racing 180.

OK! so today was day one! and TBH I never done much..spent most of the day working on the garage. I left it to run to get up to temp make sure fans came on and off, and noticed I only have one fan that comes on and another that comes on when it can be arsed!..

also when its up to temp there does seem to be a small splutter or miss a little so defo one to look at, Ritchy did mention this so its not a total surprise.

The two weapons sitting back to back here.

as I said never done much but take a few basics off it -

Metal centre cap - Up for grabs if anyone is interested.

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps381567d3.jpg

X-Power Door sills - again up for grabs
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...psbf39a6e8.jpg

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps8ef46835.jpg

but after that I was time to stop as tomorrow is collection of another track car... and had to get ready.

andys1981 21-09-12 10:18 PM

price for the sills bud

Cally180 21-09-12 10:57 PM

make me an offer bud, not wanting anything major for them, the two front ones fit into place but don't have the plastic insert bit, the rear ones are fully complete. all screw etc are there.

Lukeus101 22-09-12 12:39 AM

So it all begins :) I wish you all the best in the project and look forward to some updates.

stamford 22-09-12 07:19 AM

Don't want to be a fud but we have rules with regards selling on here, something we put in-place to the protect the members and works well so far.

Smokey 22-09-12 07:42 AM

Well worth the £5 subscription mate, especially since you are going to be around for quite some time getting the project complete.

Sorry my bad! It's remembered for next time

talkingcars 22-09-12 08:38 AM

When you start the car when cold switch the aircon off -
neither fans should come on -
turn on the aircon and one should come on -
do you have an obd2 reader such as a scangauge2,
if so plug it in for an acurate coolant temp and the other fan should come on at around 102'.

Cally180 23-09-12 08:42 PM

update for today:

spent the start of the day stripping out the garage to get the car into its new home,

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...pse66849e7.jpg

once it had been in I set about stripping it as I'm still awaiting on a few parts to come.

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps7f1a696a.jpg

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...psbc82deb3.jpg

as with the interior, I'm going to punt it but plan on using the front two seats for just now until I get cheep buckets or replacements, do you's think its worth more keeping and sell as a full set or sell split?

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...psf64f1823.jpg

still to remove door cards and deal with the front but getting there.

Also got a chance to jack it up have a play about and thinking its only needing new track rod ends and pads and disks. so happy there. thinking about either mintex grooved and dimpled with mintex pad to just get me going or EBC yellow stuff pads and similar disks.

Can get my hands on a set of 16" rover wheels which I might use instead of the 17" and maybe a set of 15" which is maybe what i'd use if possible.

daytona365 23-09-12 08:55 PM

You thinking of taking off the door cards?

big_wasa 23-09-12 08:56 PM

Are the fronts as good as the backs ? They would look great in mine but you are to far away :noexpression:

Just the backs dont fetch alot unless you find some one that has damaged them.

the seats are pretty mint tbh, the passengers is as good as new, only a small tear on the drives due to wear but very fixable if you know how or someone to do, but they do look to good to be ripping out and not going to good usage.

Where you from?

daytona365 23-09-12 09:11 PM

I see from the pics, your door cards have the inserts. IS that true. Im after front pair with inserts, as mines a later MK1 and they dropped them from production..

big_wasa 23-09-12 09:12 PM

Between Peterborough and skegness so about as far as it gets :fun:

I was in Burton yesterday as well.. so yeah you are well out good, 4hours :fun:

talkingcars 23-09-12 09:21 PM

IIRC it is a very early model so will have the inserts.

update for today:

new track rod ends fitted and new CV Boot arrived, but didn't have the right socket to take the Hub nut off..Doh!! so thats tomorrows job,

breaks have been order so awaiting on them along with new coil packs and leads.

today's bargain find is...

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a..._050/zs004.jpg

out of a 206 in the scrappy, so now I can remove the full Interior and move it on complete and to someone looking to upgrade :smart:

Maxxed_Ross 25-09-12 10:21 PM

I wouldn't be putting reclining bucket seats in a track car... they don't offer nearly as much support in a crash.

But saying that they are better than fitting harnesses to standard seats - there's a working amount of people doing that these days!

Cally180 25-09-12 10:31 PM

It didn't cost much to get them so they are better than running with standard seats, plus let's me now sell the interior as complete.

With time I'll get proper seats + get my money back on these. Gets me started.

Maxxed_Ross 25-09-12 10:36 PM

Sounds like a good plan

Cally180 28-09-12 05:47 PM

Update:

so past few days iv managed to get a new CV Boot fitted and new track rod end to the ZS along with fitting in the new bucket seats.

running a stripped out shell pretty much.

new pads and disks arrived today so started fitting them, only to find all my Callipers are sized solid and not for budging... plus I have a bust seal here and there so the plan now is to replace them ASAP.. best place to get them?

would have pictures to upload but the phone is not wanting to connect to the laptop :axe:

whats left on the to do list.

breaks
Callipers
sort tyres
fit new coils + HT leads
and more stripping :)

big_wasa 28-09-12 06:15 PM

Funny I was just looking at your monaco's on eblag. 285 miles doh.

Any way they are prone to it.

I got my rears out right from this guy

I got my fronts on exchange from Bigred.

Whats stuck, pistons or sliders ?

I'll make it 250miles if that helps you ha! :joker:

I just found and bought a 2nd hand pair off fleebay for £90 all round, even got in touch with the guy there making sure they are decent working ones.

think any one would be interested in my old callipers? or are they just scrap now?

talkingcars 28-09-12 06:29 PM

Eurocarparts offer resonable prices for refurbished calipers if you "click and collect" if you can use the members discount code on .org.

I'm sure I paid less than £45 a corner once I returned the old one.

Nobrainer 28-09-12 09:28 PM

I used bigg red. They came back as new in less than a week for about a hundred for the front pair. New pistons, sliders, seals etc and painted.

Cally180 07-10-12 06:03 PM

Had a bit of time to play about with the Zed so new pads disk and callipers are on, decided on drilled grooved mintex to get me started and 2nd hand callipers due to having 4 seized ones

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps368882a4.jpg

to do list:

- Sort tyres
- Fit new coil packs
- Service
- fit harnesses
- and clean it :shifty:

buckets fitted, still to remove door cards. ideally I want two switches for the windows so i can still use them
maybe over the winter change them for perspex.

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...psf14fa55e.jpg

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps98010536.jpg

Had a attempt to fit the new HT leads and coils, and done the 3 easy ones but.. WHO THE F### thought it was a good idea to have the other 3 in at the back, so I left them until I do the service :-D

13days left.....

Ritchy 07-10-12 06:14 PM

looking good:D

grimmy 07-10-12 06:15 PM

Coming along nicely but to be honest I had no problems with the back three plugs I used one of those jointed socket extensions and they came out no probs.

POMPSKI 07-10-12 06:21 PM

As in a UJ?

(Sparks are on the cards)

Yeah mate that's the one.makes the job a doddle.

Cally180 07-10-12 06:28 PM

yeah I didn't have one on me, and I would need to take it out again to do the plugs, so ditched it ha!

Cally180 13-10-12 11:14 PM

Ready to Race

..well almost, today I fitted the new 3 point harnesses and I must admit that it gives it that extra wee feeling that once your strapped in, That your about to go into Colin McRae Mode :rambo:

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps4c228582.jpg

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps5c7bc8b3.jpg

also thought I do a bit of stream lining..

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...psa292dbcd.jpg

and a bit more stripping on the inside.

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...psa32a3dd6.jpg

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps43fd98a8.jpg

After getting the tyres reseal, just going to run with what I've got just now until I replace at a later date with racing tyres. All that is left is a service and strip more if possible.

I did start to make an attempt to remove the door cards, but without braking them I gave up ha! how do you remove the likes of the window winders and the front in general... as I said I started then got bored and got a hammer and chisel and took some anger out on the sound proofing on the floor :judge:

so what's left to do;

- Service
- Wash and clean
- tidy up centre console
- remove door cards and strip more where possible.

Ritchy 14-10-12 08:49 AM

il give you a hand taking off the cards when i come pick the head lining up buddy:) pretty easy when you know how:)

big_wasa 14-10-12 09:26 AM

The rear winder handles are dead easy. You need a stiff bit of wire and bend a small hook on the end.
Press the silver collar back behind the winder and you will see a C clip on the back of the winder.
Hook yor wire on it and give it a pull, it doesnt need to come all the way of. And the winder will just slide of.

There is one screw in the door handle and the whole thing slides forwards about 5mm. You will see the clip and plug on the back.

There is two screws on the door pull.

Pull the bottom of the door card away from the door and work your way up.

Smokey 14-10-12 10:37 AM

Looking good bud

Cally180 22-10-12 02:47 PM

So after its 1st race yesterday at knockhill, and all going well, the plan now is to fix a few issues including the Inlet manifold. and get it right up to a decent race spec.

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...165E72D0AB.jpg

good chance it wont be out again this year.

so today I had the chance of trying out one of the improvements I am wanting to do, drop the wheel size and had got a hold of a 15" alloy to try out.

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...4E3C12C8DB.jpg

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...4E43BAF001.jpg

there is about a 2mm clearance from the alloy and a 1mm clearance from the weights and callipers. so Im looking for a set of 15" now and I am willing to swap for my 17" ... sounds a good deal to me I think :innocent:

also planning on sorting out the induction, running a feed from fog light to inlet and getting a hold of a decent set of track tyres. decat to come as well.
