Drew's ZS180

been on here for a while, thought I should add my ZS to here.

this is how I bought it in '07 with 18k on the clock. has a aircon and sunroof, was told that was slightly rare as an option.

took it to the rollers to see what I had..

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5...se/RollRd5.jpg

had it re-mapped!! lol.

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5...se/RollRd7.jpg

fitted a decat, then fitted a bmc induction..

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5...ps410fcbb3.jpg

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5...se/RollRd2.jpg

fitted a janspeed system..

best mod by far was the janspeed manifolds..

Any differences with the DTA S80 ecu connected?

Drew 17-08-13 04:17 PM

i fitted the ecu so it would run my sprintex charger better than the piggyback that it came with. it did.

other than some heavy mods id stick with the std ecu till you need more than it can give. would be the last piece of a build so you wont need to keep re-mapping with nw mods.

Well - in the comments, he says he put a spark plug in there !

petet16 17-08-13 05:20 PM

Yeah that's how flamer kits work, spark plug, coil, and a 12v feed, and a switch.

stamford 17-08-13 05:37 PM

That sounds mental!

Drew 17-08-13 08:23 PM

after that I got a box of parts from Australia..

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5...e/sprintex.jpg

and duly fitted them..

back to the rollers..

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5...se/RollRd8.jpg

well could have been more but it ran and drove well.

Drew

Drew 17-08-13 08:29 PM

took it off because I needed to get a repair from rover, but under warrenty they wouldn't have accepted a supercharger on there!

had it nasp for a while. fitted some piper 285 cams. but piper wernt making verniers anymore. so they told me they could get the std timing marks in pretty much the right position.
they couldn't!

although it ran and didn't eat all my valves, it wasn't really giving me any more.
made myself some adjustable pulley and re-timed it.
cant get pipers timing figures as it felt like the valves were touching pistons, so retarded them till it would clear and fired it up. runs and drives pretty well on std ecu so I left it like it.

Drew

Drew 17-08-13 08:33 PM

after that I re-fitted the supercharger. while I was there I added the DTA S80 ecu. I felt it would be a much better system than relying on a piggyback and the std ecu.

with all my mods it did pretty well on the rollers.

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5...e/RollRd18.jpg

sounded pretty good in a tunnel not far from me..

changed the bmc for a random Honda itg I found on ebay for £90

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5.../Photo0302.jpg

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5.../Photo0301.jpg

with all the power I though I should upgrade some other parts, got me some brembodge..

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5...105_075757.jpg

Drew

Drew 17-08-13 08:50 PM

as well as the brakes I got a few suspension parts..

whiteline 27mm front arb
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5.../Photo0236.jpg

asr rear subframe brace and arb
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5.../Photo0228.jpg

hardrace rear lower and upper arms, as well as gaz adjustable coilovers
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5.../Photo0226.jpg

spherical rear trailling arm bush
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5...ailing-arm.jpg

hardrace front upper and lower arms
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5...ront-upper.jpg
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5...ront-lower.jpg

was good but the suspension was a little soft on the std gaz springs. so soft in fact that the front springs were getting coil bound.
so I got some new front springs from gaz. std fronts are 400 lb, I got some 500's from them to try.
was a lot better but maybe a touch harsh on rough roads.

found a place selling helper springs..
http://www.dfaulknersprings.com/

got myself some 650lb front springs! with a 450lb helper
used the original 400lb front springs on the rear (were 225lb!) and added a 200lb helper.

its fooking awesome to drive now.

Lots of good stuff been done there.

Drew 17-08-13 08:54 PM

so ive not had the nasp engine mapped after I took the charger off. I would like to have it running and driving as well as it could but I don't need to spend that kind of money atm.

I have a new engine im building in the garage.

got some 82mm custom forged pistons
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5...V6-pistons.jpg

82mm steel liners
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5.../KV6-block.jpg

forged steel rods
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5...e/KV6-rods.jpg

I got the std crank stroked from 82.8 to 87.8mm.

new engine will give me 2782cc :)

Drew

Drew 17-08-13 08:57 PM

as well as the engine I have been working on a new inlet manifold. utilising some triumph Daytona 675 throttle bodies

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/Roverdose/TB7.jpg

ive got a lot further than that, but don't have a recent pic.

Drew

Drew 17-08-13 08:59 PM

so, DTA ecu is a lot of fun. I can play with the fuel and ignition all I want, have been tweeking for a few weeks to get it running and driving how I like.

took a vid this morning..

Great work some pricey stuff there

sneekyparrot 18-08-13 02:59 PM

Ummm is there a part on the car that u have not changed lol.

Sweet and I bet it corners like its on rails!

Drew 18-08-13 04:27 PM

yeah quite a few bits I still need to make individual!

does handle very well, get a nice progressive rear slide.

Drew

redzed 18-08-13 06:34 PM

how did you map it? and how have you got climate control, alarm etc all working on a new ecu? was it hard, what kind of price was it? Loving the sound of the car, very jealous!

Drew 18-08-13 07:45 PM

I had a map from my supercharged car, not that its that close, but has the basic setup in there.

I have a lc1 wideband so I know what the fuelling is doing and the ecu can trim the fuel to any level I set, so can almost tune itself.

the ignition is a little more difficult, I just add some more now and again to see if I can hear the engine detting or if I feel it struggling. probably not very good atm but im not 'that' concerned.

with the new engine ill go back to the rollers to make sure its running as well as it could be.

alarm works fine, ive not wired the climate control back up yet, I may swap some rover 400 parts that look like they are easier to wire.

Drew

talkingcars 18-08-13 08:03 PM

Rover 400 and mk1 ZS electrics are basically the same.

Drew 19-08-13 05:32 AM

trinary switch is different though, which is all I really need to wire for the aircon.
